Friday at the State Track meet for KILJ area athletes: Mary Wester finished 5th in the 3A girls shot put 41′ 1 1/4″. Ben Canby finished 4th in shot put with personal best 52′ 8″. Jackson Kelly 17th in shot 47′ 4 3/4″. In the 110 meter high hurdles Cole Phillips had the 2nd fastest qualifying time 14.23 and Spencer White made the finals with 5th fastest time of 14.90. Kelsi Phipps tied the 3A record in the 100 meter hurdles prelims going 14.7, Hannah Becker 2nd fast in 15.32. MPHS girls 4×200 ran 20th in a time of 1:48.29 with Brianna Shelman, Mikayla Lance, Katie Ensminger and Danielle Coffin. In the girls 400 meter hurdles Kelsi Phipps was 4th in 1:04.57, Hannah Becker was 5th 1:05.95. Spencer White finished 7th in the boys 400 meter hurdles in 55.44, Jake Lowe had a personal best of 58.50 to finish 19th. M.P. girls 4×100 finished 9th missing the finals by 3 hundreths of a second running 50.56 with Katie Ensminger, Hannah Becker, Kelsi Phipps and Danielle Coffin. Panther boys 4×100 finished 21st running 45.11 Brady Sartorius, Spencer White, Tony Cristofor and Pat Canby. MPHS girls 8th with 19 points, M.P. boys 9th with 13. Assumption leads 3A girls race with 49 points. Pella leads 3A boys with 33.
2A place winners: From West Burlington Jeff Giannettino won the high jump 6′ 11″, Xavier Williams 3rd 6′ 8. Heidi Hillyard of Mediapolis 3rd in discus 129′ 3″. West Burlington-N.D. set a new record in the 4×200 relaywinning in 1:27.51. Jacob Smith WB-ND won the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.64.Sarah Vorwerk Mediapolis ran 1:06.42 and placed 6th in 400 hurdles. West Burlington-N.D. set a new record in the boys 4×100 in a time of 42.44.
For the 1A area teams: Jesse Fuller of Van Buren ran 16.6 in the 110 highs and did not make finals. Karlie Wade of WMU was 13th in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.68. WMU boys 4×200 finished 8th Kyler Smith, Levi Giese, Garret Baker and Keaton Pallister ran 1:33.40. Waco girls 4×200 was 15th Trilby Frier, Halle Kissell, Jennie Green and Angelique Frier ran 1:50.83. Danville girls 4×200 ran 19th in 1:51.14 with Grace Grothe, MacKenzie Duvall, Hattie Davidson and Emma Jarrett. Carson McSorely of New London finished 7th in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.62, Karlie Wade of WMU ran 1:11.57 out of the points. Garrett Saunders of Van Buren 4th in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.98. Waco girls 4×100 finished 10th in prelims running 52.80, with Trilby Frier, Jalyssa Jepson, Jennie Green and Angelique Frier. Lou Krieger Coen finished 4th in the discus throwing 121′ 11″. Defending state champion class 1A high jumper Mitchell Martin finished 2nd this year going 6’8″. Alexis Hite of Danville 8th in high jump going 5′ 1″. Riley Grogan of New London 17th in discus 131′ 2″.
