The 2015 Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association state track and field championships begin today and run thru Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. This morning the 2A and 3A teams will be on the track first. Mary Wester will be the 1st Mt. Pleasant Panther to compete, she will be in the discus event. Also in the field events at 11:30 this morning will be Kailey Peterson in the girls high jump and Ben Canby in the discus. The MPHS girls shuttle hurdle relay team will open up the running events when they run in the prelims at 9:20 a.m. Logan Murray will be in the boy’s 1st final event, the 3200 meter run at 10:25 a.m. Danielle Coffin will run in the 100 meter prelims at 10:45 a.m. Cole Phillips and Zoom Gwamna will run in the boys 100 meter prelims at 11 a.m. Another final for the MPHS girls is the 4×800 relay with Natalie Ita, Ellie Conrad, Laura Hult, Taylor Murray at 11:30 a.m. The Panther boys 4×800 with Jack Davis, Clayle Franklin, Jacob Holtkamp and Kyle Vanderham run at 12:30 p.m. Danielle Coffin returns to the track for the 200 meter dash prelims at 12:50, Cole Phillips and Zoom Gwamna run in the 200 meter prelims at 1:10 p.m. The MPHS boys shuttle hurdle relay will conclude the 1st day of competition in the prelims at 2:20 p.m. Spencer White, Brock Wilson, Jake Lowe and Cole Phillips are the runners. The 1A and 4A athletes will then take to the track and field for their 1st day of competition.
