The Iowa Girls High School Region 7 Doubles Tournament was held in Fairfield last night. In singles, Thuan Tran of Mt. Pleasant defeated Kali Rudd of Davis County. In the second round, Tran was defeated by Holy Trinity’s Elizabeth Barr. Tran ends the season with a 8-5 record. Quin Whaley of Mt. Pleasant defeated Univa Song of Maharishi in the first round but then lost to Jordyn Thompson of Davis County. In doubles, Britanny Workman and Kearstyn Johnson of Fort Madison defeated Meagan Sutherland and Kylie Sourwine of Mt. Pleasant. The Mt. Pleasant team of Aline Thiengmany and Afton Engberg defeated Alexis Boyd and Kira Walljasper of HTC in the first round and they defeated Cheyenne Bolding and Katie Conner of Notre Dame West Burlington in the second round. Then in the semi-final, Katie Larson and Hope Gray of Fort Madison defeated Thiengmany and Engberg. In the consolation, they were defeated by Keokuk’s Allie Brookhart and Madison Etter.
In soccer, the Mt. Pleasant High School boys team defeated Class 1A no. 4 ranked Danville-New London at East Lake Park yesterday. They were tied 1-1 through regulation with Mt. Pleasant winning penalty kicks 6-5 to win 2-1.
The girls soccer team least to Notre Dame-West Burlington/Danville 9-0.
