The State Track and Field Championships for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines today thru Saturday.  Action on today and tomorrow mornings begins at 9 am with the 1A and 4A teams followed in the afternoon and evening hours by the 2A and 3A teams.  Saturday all classes will compete beginning at 9 am.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will bring you updates from the Blue Oval each day as we cover the athletes from area schools competing, our 1st report this morning will be at 9:30.

EVENTS FOR AREA CLASS 1A GIRLS AND BOYS:  Waco girls shuttle hurdle, Lexi Brown New London 3000 meter run.  200 meter dash has Alyssa Pfadenhauer and Kathryn Luers of Danville.  Bryce Robison of WMU in boys 200 meters, he will also run in the 100 meter prelims along with Cornell Hulme of Waco.  Savannah Sutherland and Carson McSorely of New Lonfon will run for New London in the 400 meters final, they will be joined by Alyssa Pfadenhauer of Danville.  The Waco boys will run in the shuttle hurdle prelims to wrap up the 1st day.  No 1A athletes will be involved in field events today which would be the long jump and shot put for girls and boys.

This afternoon the MPHS girls and boys teams will be competing beginning at 2:40.  MPHS boys will start with the shuttle hurdle relay prelims, , Abby Ryon 3000 meters,Logan Murray and Cody Mertens will run the 3200 meter final.  The Panther girls will run the 4×800 relay final and so will the boys.  The Panther girls shuttle hurdle relay team will wrap up the running events in the prelims.  Field events today will have Bailey Johnson throwing the discus for the Panthers.

The MPHS girls and boys soccer teams will be in action also today with Notre Dame coming to the East Lake Park Pitch to play the Panther girls and the boys will travel to Danville to play the Danville-New London Bears.

The MPHS girl’s tennis team will compete today in the Girl’s Regional Tennis Tournament HOSTED by FAIRFIELD.  TEAMS COMPETING ALONG WITH MPHS AND FAIRFIELD ARE:  DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION, MAHARISHI, FORT MADISON, NOTRE DAME, KEOKUK, DAVIS COUNTY.  PLAY BEINGS AT 9:00 AM.

Today the Mt. Pleasant High School boys’ golf team will be playing in the 3A DISTRICT boy’s golf tournament that will be HOSTED BY OSKALOOSA at the Edmundson Golf Course.

Qualifying teams from the sectional at Williamsburg will be competing also, that will be Williamsburg who shot 316 Centerville who shot 326 and Pella with a 334.  District qualifying teams from the sectional at Notre Dame-West Burlington were    Mount Pleasant who shot 317 whose Fifth player score was lower and 317 for Mount Vernon.

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) held their annual awards banquet and hall of fame induction last night at Tapawingo National Golf Club in St. Louis, Missouri.  At the banquet, the SLIAC announced the recipients of several awards and inducted their Hall of Fame Class of 2017. Iowa Wesleyan University finished as the runner up in the SLIAC SAAC Service Award, falling to MacMurray College.  Iowa Wesleyan led the service competition at the end of the first semester, but MacMurray pulled ahead in the second semester to edge out the IW SAAC group.  The Tigers finished the year with a total of 23,542.50 points, 115 points behind this year’s winner. In the spring semester alone, IW recorded over 1,100 service hours and raised nearly $2,000 Men’s Basketball Alum, Joe Lennon’s fight against cancer.
