The New London girls’ golf team rolled to a convincing win in the Class 1A Regional 1st round tournament on their home course Monday.  The Tigers shot a 344 on the Deerwood Course, Winfield Mt. Union was a distant 2nd at 418, those two teams advance to the Regional final next week at the Knoll Ridge Course in North English.  Emma Pry was medalist shooting a 4 over par 76, Paetyn Prottsman was runner-up with an 85, Casey Noble 3rd with an 86, Sophie Kongable of WMU shot 94 and Morgan Oliver of New London 97, those 5 young ladies will be in medalist competition at the Regional final.

 

Columbus Community won the 2A girls’ golf Regional at Heritage Oaks Golf Course at Wapello with a 406 score, West Branch was 2nd with 420.  Medalist was Kourtney Orr with an 89.  Columbus will play May 23rd in the Regional Final at Oskaloosa.

 

Keokuk defeated Fairfield 4-3 in overtime to win the Southeast Conference girl’s soccer title.  Skyler Johnson of the Chiefs scored the winning goal with 2 ½ minutes left in the second o.t.  Keokuk is 11-2 overall and finished 8-0 in the conference.

Former Mt. Pleasant Panther golfer Natalie Booton and the #21 ranked William Penn Women’s Golf Team begin NAIA National Tournament on today in Savannah GA.  Natalie not only a good golfer but she also has a 3.8 GPA!

 

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s basketball team has announced their incoming class for the 2016-17 season.  The newcomers join the Tigers after playing their high school basketball in the tristate area of Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri.

Iowa Wesleyan University softball player Shannon Johnson of Fairfield will be on the USA softball team for Athletes International that is scheduled to play in the Netherlands July 31st through August 7th.  Johnson a junior on the Iowa Wesleyan softball  team this year appeared in 30 games. She had a 289 batting average, with 2 homers, a triple, 8 doubles, scored 16 runs and drove in 10.

 

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association has announced their 2016 Softball National All-Academic Teams. This year there were 63 total student-athletes who managed to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5.

The Iowa Wesleyan softball team had five members earn National All-Academic Honors. Caitlin O’Neill, Kassie Vazquez, Alli Willis, Skyler Rodgers, and Samantha McIlwain each maintained a 3.5 or higher to receive the honors while balancing their softball responsibilities as well. Three of the five student-athletes are nursing majors, while the other two are studying biology and educational foundations and elementary education.

 

The USCAA National All-Academic team has been released for the 2016 baseball season.  Iowa Wesleyan had four out of the 64 total student-athletes receive the award for this season.

Jarred Boyer, Cole Fanselow, Travis Kostello, and Alex Payne each met the criteria in the classroom to be awarded with National All-Academic honors.  Cole Fanselow and Jarred Boyer are both business majors, while Payne is a pre-med major and Kostello is majoring in biology.

 

 

The Henry County Football camp is going to be held June 1st thru 3rd at the Maple Leaf Athletic Complex, it is open to students who will be entering grades 4 thru 6 in the fall of 2016.  With paid admission all campers will receive a camp T-Shirt,

Instruction and feedback.

This three day non-padded camp will focus on the technique that improves skill and

introduces young athletes to concepts of the sport.

Along with flexibility and speed training, all positions will be covered in the three day

camp, including special teams.

The Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan University football staffs will be conducting the camp with the help from past and present high school and college players.  Cost is $35, registration forms are available at elementary schools and you can contact Shawn Striegel head coach at MPHS or Mike Richtman head coach of the IWU Tigers.

 

The WACO CSD Foundation will host a Golf Outing on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Golf and Country Club in Washington, Iowa. The outing is a 4 person, best ball, shotgun start tournament. Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. and the golf begins at 3:00 p.m.

Funds raised will benefit WACO athletes and community with the construction of a weight room and fitness center.

Flag sponsors are appreciated on a first come, first serve basis. Team fees are $250.00 includes green fees, 2 carts and meal. $65/person to be assigned to a team. Registration form and additional information available at www.wacocsd.org

 

 

 

The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Athletic Club Annual Golf outing will be held Friday June 10th at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington.  Registration begins at 9 a.m.  A shotgun start begins at 10 a.m.  The post outing reception begins at 4 p.m.  The cost is $100 per player, $400 per team and there is a 36 team limit.  Golfers get 18 holes of golf with cart, box lunch, beverage tickets along with the post outing reception and raffle drawings.  There will also be a number of contests during the tournament.  Register online at http://www.iwtigers.com/f/golfouting.php
