Head girls track coach Dave Hutchcroft has been name the 2015 recipient of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction award. The IGHSUA’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession. Dave has coached girls track in Iowa for 44 years. He began his career at English Valley for 7 years, spent 6 years at Jefferson High School and has been at Mt. Pleasant for 31 years and has been head varsity coach 23 of those years. 15 conference championships have been won in those 23 years with 11 in a row from 1998 to 2008. His Panther teams have started another streak of winning the last 4 conference titles. Dave has had 8 teams finish in the top 5 at the state meet and his teams won the 3A titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Finished as runners up in 2007 and 2014. Hutchcroft has coached 118 state place winners including 25 state champions. His favorite event the shuttle hurdle relay has placed 15 times at state and has won the event 4 times including the last 3 years. At the Drake relays he has had 40 place winners and 2 champions. Track hasn’t been the only sport for Dave to excel at coaching. He coached basketball for 35 years with 479 career wins and was inducted into the IGCA Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004. Dave also has coached JV football, cross country and softball during his illustrious career. He has been married to his wife Linda for 43 years and has 2 children. Ryan who lives with his family in Minneapolis and daughter Kelle who lives in Charlotte, N.C. with her family. Dave and Linda are enjoying 5 grandchildren.

 

The Mt. Pleasant high School girls and boys track teams have had additional athletes qualify for the state track meet next week, over and above the automatic 1st and 2nd place qualifiers earlier announced.  For the Panther girls:  Daniell Coffin 100 and 200 meter dashes, Ellie Conrad 1500 meter run, 4×200 relay-Brianna Shelman, Mikayla Lance, Katie Ensminger, Danielle Coffin.  4×800 relay-Natalie Ita, Ellie Conrad, Laura Hult, Taylor Murray.

For the MPHS boys:  Zoom Gwamna 100 and 200 meter dashes, Spencer White 110 high hurdles, Jake Lowe 400 meter hurdles, Kelly Jackson shot put.

 
The WMU boys golf team won the Class 1A golf sectional tournament title Friday at the Deerwood Course in New London. The Wolves shot a 326 scorer and had the medalist, Kaleb Hagge shot a 72. Tristan Kadel of New London was runner up medalist shooting 76. The New London Tiger team finished 2nd shooting 331. Those top two teams advance onto the district tournament now to be played Thursday in Oskaloosa.

 

The Danville-New London  boys soccer team has advanced to the semi finals of the Southeast Iowa super conference soccer tournament with a 7-1 win over Wapello Friday night.  The semi finals at 10 a.m. this morning and finals at 2 p.m. this afternoon will be played at Highland High School.

 

Keokuk High School boys basketball standout Jonny Dahl has signed a national letter of intent to play college basketball at NCAA D-I School Stephen F. Austin.
