The Mt. Pleasant 7th grade boys track team won the Middle School Conference meet with 186 points, Washington was runner up in the 7 team field with 112 points. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Hoang Mai, Logan Bass, Jaden Davis and Konnor Peterson set a school record of 1:11.6. Creighton Mitchell set a new record in the 200 meter dash at 24.15, Konnor Peterson set a 100 meter record hurdles in 15.43. The 7th grade track team during the season set 9 school records and had an undefeated season to go along with a conference championship.
Creighton Mitchell, current MP 7th grader, attended the Middle School State Track Meet in Ames on May 9th. He ran the 100 meter dash winning in a time of 12.09, 200 meter dash winning in a time of 24.7, 400 meter dash winning in a time of 55.31 which was a state record
Creighton also participated in the long jump breaking a state record with a jump of 18 feet 3 ¾ inches
He was the only 7th grade boy participant and earned a first place team award for the 7th grade large school division.
The 9 team single elimination Southeast Iowa Super conference soccer tournament begins Friday. #1 seed Danville-New London will host Wapello who defeated Mediapolis in a 1st round match Wednesday night. Other Friday matches has Notre Dame at Columbus Community, Central Lee at Highland and IMS at Holy Trinity Catholic. Saturday the semifinals and finals will be played at Highland.
ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE TODAY: THURSDAY: MPHS boy’s tennis district action at Davenport Assumption. MPHS boys golf sectional tournament at Flint Hills Course in Burlington against Clear Creek Amana, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Mt. Vernon, Solon, Washington and West Burlington. MPHS girls and boys varsity track teams hosting the state qualifying meet at Maple Leaf Track at 4 p.m. competing teams are: Davenport Assumption, Clear Creek Amana, Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Washington, Solon and Mt. Pleasant. MPHS girls soccer hosts Washington, MPHS girls tennis at Davis County. FRIDAY: Washington and Williamsburg play the MPHS girls golf team at MPGCC, MPHS boys soccer at Pella. SATURDAY: MPHS girls soccer at a tournament at West Liberty. MPHS girls tennis play in the regional tournament at Fairfield Maharishi.
The USCAA has released the 2015 Baseball All-American and All-Academic award winners. Iowa Wesleyan had two players selected to each team. The National All-Academic team criteria requires a student-athlete to have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better and must have passed at least 24 credit hours at the institution. Travis Kostello (SO/St. Louis, MO) and Michael Edgcomb (SO/St. Louis, MO) both met the qualifications to earn the award. Kostello is a pre-med and biology major at IW. Edgcomb is majoring in business administration. The Tigers had two players earn All-American honors for the 2015 season. Jeffrey Burdett JR/Kuna, ID) was named Second Team All-American for his performance on the mound this season. Chanyancze Stirbis was named Honorable Mention All-American for his play this year.
On Saturday, June 13, the 2nd Alumni Football Game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington High School Alumni will be held on Evans Field at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex to benefit University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
The event is organized by Alumni Football USA, and will consist of a full contact football game, as well as various fundraising activities. The majority of event fundraising
comes from the presale of tickets, which will be available May 9, 2015 at Browns Shoe Fit,

Mt. Pleasant Panther 2015 boy’s Summer Basketball Camp registration is open for elementary thru high school boys. The 1st 1 week camp will be held June 22nd thru June 25th and week 2 will be July 13th thru 16th. Elementary camp is for 3rd thru 5th graders. Middle School camp for 6th thru 8th and High School camp is for 9th thru 12th graders. Camps will be conducted by Coach Paul Rundquist, and his staff.
