Washington captured the Southeast Conference girl’s golf tournament at Keokuk with a 351 score, Mt. Pleasant finished in 2nd place shooting 369. Conference medalist was Sara Nachos of Washington with a 75. Haley Booton of MPHS made All Conference by placing 3rd in medal play shooting an 88. Other Panther scores were: Elle Schliesman 91, Cali Liechty 92, Emily Cox 98, Allie Lowe 112 and Jenny Miller 117.

The MPHS boy’s golf team finished 4th in the Southeast Conference Tournament, Fairfield won the title with a 348 score on their home course. Washington shot 353 to be runnerup, Keokuk shot 356 for 3rd, MPHS shot 363 and Ft. Madison was 5th with a 388 score. Nick Higgins of Fairfield was medalist with a 74, 10 strokes better than anyone else. Jordon Phomsouvandara and Trevor Mabeus had 90’s. Beau Parkevich a 91, Riley Kuempker a 92, William Kinney and Jeff Cox shot 93’s.

There was a tie for 1st and 3rd in the 4 team Southeast Conference Boy’s tennis tournament Tuesday in Ft. Madison. Ft. Madison and Keokuk tied for 1st with 17 points. Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield tied for 3rd with 10 points each. Austin Meyer of M.P. was the conference champion at #1 singles, Ben Zihlman was 2nd at #2 singles.

Matt Hellige a 7th grader at Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School won the 1600 meter run at the Iowa Junior High State Track meet in Ames over the weekend. His winning time was 5:11.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School track teams ran at Washington on Friday. The 7th graders won the team title with 158 points. The MPMS 8th grade team also finished 1st with 129 points.

ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE TODAY: THURSDAY: MPHS boy’s tennis district action at Davenport Assumption. MPHS boys golf sectional tournament at Flint Hills Course in Burlington against Clear Creek Amana, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Mt. Vernon, Solon, Washington and West Burlington. MPHS girls and boys varsity track teams hosting the state qualifying meet at Maple Leaf Track at 4 p.m. teams competing are Davenport Assumption, Clear Creek Amana, Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Washington, Solon and Mt. Pleasant. MPHS girls soccer hosts Washington, MPHS girls tennis at Davis County. FRIDAY: Washington and Williamsburg play the MPHS girls golf team at MPGCC, MPHS boys soccer at Pella. SATURDAY: MPHS girls soccer at a tournament at West Liberty. MPHS girls tennis play in the regional tournament at Fairfield Maharishi.

On Saturday, June 13, the 2nd Alumni Football Game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington High School Alumni will be held on Evans Field at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex to benefit University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
The event is organized by Alumni Football USA, and will consist of a full contact football game, as well as various fundraising activities. The majority of event fundraising
comes from the presale of tickets, which will be available May 9, 2015 at Browns Shoe Fit,

Mt. Pleasant Panther 2015 boy’s Summer Basketball Camp registration is open for elementary thru high school boys. The 1st 1 week camp will be held June 22nd thru June 25th and week 2 will be July 13th thru 16th. Elementary camp is for 3rd thru 5th graders. Middle School camp for 6th thru 8th and High School camp is for 9th thru 12th graders. Camps will be conducted by Coach Paul Rundquist, and his staff.
