Iowa high school boys basketball state tournament Day 4 results:

Class 1A Consolation:

-#6 St Mary’s Remsen held to win 50-49 over #4 Montezuma, St Mary’s finishes in 3rd place.

Class 2A Consolation:

-#2 South Hamilton Jewell won a close 54-52 game over #4 Van Meter, South Hamilton finishes in 3rd place.

Class 3A Semi-Finals:

-#1 Norwalk beat #4 Clear Lake 61-54

-#3 Oskaloosa defeated #7 Winterset 48-43, Oskaloosa will play Norwalk for the state title.

Class 4A Semi-Finals:

-#3 Cedar Falls won a defensive game with #2 North Scott 35-27

-#5 Dubuque Senior survives and advances after a 57-55 overtime win over #1 Waukee, Dubuque Senior will play Cedar Falls for the state title.

-#1 Norwalk vs #3 Oskaloosa at 6:35pm

Class 4A Championship:

-#3 Cedar Falls vs #5 Dubuque Senior at 8:35pm


Today the Iowa High School Athletic Association will be inducting new members into the Basketball Hall of Fame and Southeast Iowa will be represented. Former Danville Bear boys basketball coach Ken Laffoon will be inducted into the hall. Laffoon oversaw two dominant stretches at Danville after starting at Beach (North Dakota) and Midland, Wyoming, capping career in 2018 with 508-181 record. Bears qualified for seven state tournaments with Laffoon coaching, including 2001 and 2002 titles in Class 2A. Runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012 followed by tourney berths in 2013, 2015, and 2016.  He is entering the hall of fame with a prestigious class that also includes former NBA players Nick Collison who graduated from Iowa Falls and Kirk Hinrich who graduated from Sioux City West. The induction ceremony is taking place during halftime of the Class 3A championship game which starts at 6:35pm.



The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association released the All Sub-State Teams and Awards.

In Class 1A Sub-State 4: Nik Coble from Waco, Mason Porter of New London, Gavin Kies from Notre Dame, and the Co-Coaches of the Year are Paul Kissell of Waco and Jeff Christopherson of Alburnett.

In Class 2A Sub-State 4: Keaton Mitchell from Wapello and Ben Wolgemuth of Mediapolis.

In Class 3A Sub-State 5: Jayden Fedler of Fort Madison, and Austin Simpson and Tristin Waugh from Fairfield.



Coming up this weekend the Iowa Wesleyan baseball team will hit the road down south. Tigers have a 4 game series with Louisiana College down in Pineville Louisiana. Tigers and Wildcats will play two games on Saturday and then two games on Monday. Iowa Wesleyan enters the series with a record of 2-1-1, they have had 8 games cancelled due to weather so far this season. Wildcats are 6-5 so far this season. First game on Saturday will begin at 1pm.


Iowa Wesleyan softball will also be hitting the road this weekend. Tigers will be in Myrtle Beach South Carolina for almost a whole week. On Sunday Tigers will kick the season off against La Roche College at 12:30pm and then Fitchburg State College at 2:30pm. Then on Monday they play Clarks Summit and Medaille College. On Tuesday they place Centenary College and Mount Aloysius College. Thursday they play Immaculata University, SUNY-Poly, and Franciscan University. Finishing the trip on Friday against Morrisville State College and Shawnee State University.


Mt. Pleasant Youth softball registration will be held Saturday, March 9 from 8-11 am at Van Allen Elementary.  Registration forms have been distributed to the school districts, are on the website and will be available during registration.

Waco will be hosting the popular Alumni Games on Saturday, April 6th. Events include men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, and volleyball. All events are subject to enough players. College Basketball:

-Iowa State plays their regular season finale tomorrow when they host Texas Tech. Cyclones are in a nose dive right now to end the season, they have gone 2-5 in their last 7 games. Game time tomorrow is 1pm and pregame coverage will begin at noon on KILJ Radio 1130am and
