Iowa Wesleyan Athletic Department has named Chris Gaskin as the next head coach for the women’s soccer team. He becomes the ninth head coach in program history. As the head coach at Green Mountain College he guided the team to a Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship last year plus the first winning season in the program since 2006. Prior to his time at Green Mountain he was an assistant coach at Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota. During his playing days at Green Mountain College he earned multiple All-Conference honors and was Male Athlete of the Year in 2012. He graduated with a degree in sociology and then obtained a Master’s degree in sports psychology. Gaskin went on to play for the Riverside Football and University of Stirling Futsal Team in Scotland in 2014 and 2015 where we was awarded the Player’s Player of the Season. He will be the guest on Tiger Nation tomorrow morning.
Mt Pleasant girls track competed in the Falcon Relays yesterday at West Burlington High. Panthers finished in 1st place in the Class A team standings with 171 points, second place was West Burlington-Notre Dame with 124.5 points, followed by Washington, Fairfield, Keokuk, and Central Lee. Mt Pleasant won 10 of the 19 events. In the shot put Lexie Magnani finished 1st with a throw of 42’4” and Jaden Brumbaugh threw 34’4”. In the long jump Lyndi Vantiger was 3rd with a jump of 15’1/2”. In the 800 meter run Maggie Jennings finished 1st with a time of 2:35.33, and Cristina Carthey was 2nd at 2:43.38. In the 1,500 meter run Abby Ryon finished 1st at 5:16.22, and Abby Blint ran 6:07.44. In the 3,000 meter it was Abby Ryon again in 1st at 10:41.76. In the 100 hurdles Maddie Williamson finished 2nd at 17.90 and Karsyn Lamm was 3rd at 18.05. In the 400 hurdles Maggie Cristoforo was 1st with a time of 1:08.68.
In the 4×100 relay Mt Pleasant finished 3rd at 52.93. In the 4×200 relay Panthers were 1st at 1:55.64 with the team of Jenna Gilmore, Kenna Lamm, Maggie Cristoforo, and Avery Sutter. In the 4×400 relay Mt Pleasant again was 1st at 4:31.79 with the team of Kendall Dascher, Ralyn Seberg, Maggie Jennings, and Kenna Lamm. In the 4×800 relay Mt Pleasant was 1st with a time of 11:03.39 with the team of Monroe Swain, Cristina Carthey, Abby Blint, and Maggie Jennings. In the sprint medley relay Panthers won again with a time of 1:56.01 with the team of Kenna Lamm, Karsyn Lamm, Avery Sutter, and Maggie Cristoforo. In the shuttle hurdle relay Mt Pleasantw as 1st at 1:12.79 with the team of Maddie Williamson, Jenna Gilmore, Serenity Keomanivong, and Karysn Lamm.
In the Class B group Pekin was the top team with 146 points, after that it was Danville, Mediapolis, Winfield-Mt Union, Waco, and New London.
Mt Pleasant and Fort Madison boys tennis teams played out at East Lake Park yesterday. Bloodhounds defeated the Panthers 6-3. In singles Sam Avery defeated Corbin Broeker 9-7, Jason Thurman beat Jaxon Hoyle 8-3, Vasin Thurman topped Donny Arledge 8-3, and Reed Fehseke beat David Nguyen 8-4. In doubles Fort Madison won with Thurman/Thurman over Broeker/Hoyle 8-5 and Avery/Fehseke over Nguyen/Schimmelpfennig 8-6. Mt Pleasant’s Jack Schimmelpfennig won his match over Bryce Workman 8-2 and Clayton Henriksen defeated Levi Sissel 8-3. In doubles Arledge/Henriksen beat Workman/Sissel 8-2.
Iowa Wesleyan baseball was in St Louis yesterday for a non-conference game with Washington University. Tigers had a rough outing losing to the Bears 11-0. Iowa Wesleyan was able to keep Washington scoreless for the first two innings but the Bears would score two runs in the 3rd, three in the 4th, two in the 7th, and four runs in the 8th inning. Everett Swinson takes the loss on the mound after three innings of work with two strikeouts. Tigers were able to record 8 hits in the game but couldn’t bring any runs in for their first shutout of the season. Iowa Wesleyan baseball is now 3-12-1 on the season and will be back in action this weekend for a conference series at Eureka College.
Iowa Wesleyan softball has their home opener today against Knox College out at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. Tigers are 9-6 on the season but looking to bounce back after back to back shutout losses at Westminster College. Knox College is 4-12 on the season. Today is a double header with game one starting at 3pm.

Girls and Boys track will be hosting a varsity invitational out at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex starting at 4:30pm
-Saturday: Varsity boys soccer playing in an invitational at Fort Madison starting at 9am
On April 20th there is going to be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place at Mt Pleasant Middle School. There are several age groups for male and female teams to compete in. -Iowa women’s basketball is still in the dance. Making it to the Sweet 16 the #2 seed Hawkeyes will play #3 NC State on March 30th at 10:30am in Greensboro North Carolina.
