The Rec Center of Mt. Pleasant is getting ready to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The observance will take place April 5th thru the 9th with many special events for members and general public. On Monday April 6th it’s flick and float, watch a movie while floating in the pool from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday April 7th there is a dodgeball tournament, Wednesday April 8th Zumba fitness at 6 p.m. Thursday April 9th youth fitness bootcamps will be held with former Iowa Hawkeye and NFL football standout Tim Dwight. K thru 5 class 3:45 to 4:15 and the 6th thru 12th grade 4:30-5 p.m. Stop in at the Rec Center or go to mpreccenter.com for more details about these events. Thursday night April 9th is Dwight Night from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. This will be the Rec Center’s Annual Support Campaign event. Admission is $10 per person or $20 for a family. Stop out and meet Tim Dwight who had a very successful football career at all levels and now has the Tim Dwight Foundation that provides youth summer football camps with proceeds aiding the Children’s Hospital of Iowa and a scholarship fund. There will be refreshments a live auction and lots more fun during the Dwight Night.
The Mt. Pleasant Panther girls track team was scheduled to run at Iowa City High yesterday but because of the wind and cold was postponed to today, the Burlington girl’s team will also be there. Iowa Wesleyan was scheduled to play softball at Loras College yesterday but that action was postponed because of cold and snow.
Iowa Wesleyan College baseball team will play one nine inning game today at 4 p.m. at Maple Leaf Field against Monmouth College.
University of Northern Iowa signees Luke McDonnell and Spencer Haldeman highlight this year’s Eastern Iowa All-Star Game prep basketball double-header.
The girl-boy event is Wednesday evening at Kirkwood Commmunity College’s Johnson Hall, with the girls’ game tipping at 6 p.m. and the boys’ at approximately 7:30. It is $8 for admission.
The 6-foot-10 McDonnell averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds this season for Dubuque Senior. The 6-foot-2 Haldeman of Western Dubuque averaged a Class 4A-best 24.3 points per game.
KILJ area players in the game: Fort Madison’s Miles Wentzien, Keokuk’s Jonny Dahl.
The girls’ game also features a UNI recruit in Iowa City West’s Mikaela Morgan. Others participating are Burlington Notre Dame’s Taylor Hickey, Van Buren’s Kaitlyn Johnson, and Mediapolis’ Andrea Larson.
The 3rd Annual Mt. Pleasant Easter Weekend 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday April 4th, 2015, at Cottrell Gym. 3rd-12th grade girls and boys, open men and women divisions, and 35 and older men and women divisions are available. Cost is $60 per team, maximum of 4 players on each team, medals will be awarded for the 1st and 2nd places in each division. WACO Alumni we NEED YOU…The 3rd annual WACO vs. WMU alumni game is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 31st at 8p.m. This 2015 game will be held at the Winfield complex during Crooked Creek Days. Interested WACO Alumni should sign-up at www.alumnifootballusa.com. A minimum of 25 alumni athletes from each school are necessary for the game to be officially scheduled. Less than 25 signed up athletes will cause the game to be cancelled. Alumni Football USA and WACO Alumni athletes have raised more than $5,000 to benefit WACO Athletics .
