The Mt. Pleasant Panther girls competed yesterday at the Lied Recreation Center for the state indoor track meet. They finished with six top-ten finishes at the event. Kelsi Phipps won the 60-meter hurdles in the time of 9.34 seconds. Hannah Becker finished fourth in the 60 hurdles with 9.65 and tied for 4th in the long jump at 4’10”. Phipps took 4th in the long jump with 15-10 ¾. The Panther relay teams also did well with their 4×100 relay earning 7th with 52.84. That team was Katie Ensminger, Brianna Shelman, Danielle Coffman and Becker. Also taking 7th was the 4×800 team. Finishing in 10:29.9 was the team Ellie Conrad, Delany McDowell, Laura Holt and Natalie Ita. Up next: the will be at the Central College indoor meet on Saturday.

Two Mt. Pleasant High School athletes signed letters of intent to play collegiate sports. Be sure to tune in to sports where John Kuhens will talk with Emily Cox and Jena Stuckerjuergen about their decision.

The NCAA men’s tournament selection committee has placed 3 Iowa teams in the Big Dance, it was announced Sunday night that Iowa will be a 7th seed, they open play in Seattle Friday against Davidson KILJ-FM will carry the game live beginning at 5 p.m. .  Iowa State a 3 seed plays Alabama Birmingham Thursday in Louisville, KILJ-AM 1130 will carry that game live.  UNI a 5 seed plays Wyoming Friday in Seattle

For the women’s tournament, Iowa will once again make an appearance. They are a number four seed and play Friday at 1:30 pm. The 24-7 Hawkeyes will play 14th seed American (24-8). This is the 8th consecutive season that the Hawkeyes have made an appearance in the NCAA Tournaments, they one of ten teams to earn that honor.
