Yesterday Iowa Wesleyan softball played a trio of games starting off with Immaculata University. It was a tied ballgame until the top of the 6th inning when Allison Daum hit a RBI single and then Morgan Christner hit her own RBI single. In the 7th inning Emma McDanel hit a RBI double to give the Tigers a 3-0 win. Morgan Christner picked up the win in the circle, she threw 7 shutout innings with 12 strike outs.

In the 2nd game the Tigers played SUNY-Poly. Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning but Iowa Wesleyan would score off an Alex Eyman 2 RBI single and an Emma McDanel RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Suny-Poly added 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to regain a 6-3 lead. Tigers answered straight back with 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning and a run off an error in the 7th inning to lift Iowa Wesleyan to an 8-6 victory. Tigers had 14 hits with doubles by Allison Daum, Alex Eyman, and Kayla Ford. Emma McDanel led the team with 3 RBIS and Daum picked up the win after pitching 4.2 innings.

In the 3rd game Iowa Wesleyan faced Franciscan University. Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Franciscan answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st and another run in the 2nd inning. Iowa Wesleyan was able to tie it at 4-4 following an Emma McDanel RBI single. Franciscan would regain the lead with 3 runs in the 4th inning for the final score of 7-4. Kayla Ford and Alex Eyman led the Tigers with two hits each, Eyman had a team high 2 RBIs. Emma McDanel threw 5 innings and recorded 3 strikeouts but did take the loss. Iowa Wesleyan softball is now 6-3 overall on the season and they will finish their spring break road trip today with a pair of games, starting with Morrisville State College at 10:30am and then Shawnee State University at 12:30pm.



Iowa Wesleyan baseball was in action last night in Conway Arkansas against Hendrix College. Warriors scored a run in the 1st, two in the 2nd, and one in the 3rd to jump to an early 4-0 lead. Tigers were able to rally and scored 4 runs in the 4th inning to tie it up. Michael Rojas hit an RBI single, Justin Klug followed with a 2 RBI single and Joe Mitchell capped it out with an RBI double. Warriors scored a run in the 4th, two in the 6th, and one in the 8th to give Hendrix an 8-4 win. Justin Klug led the team with 2 RBIs, Joe Mitchell and Michael Rojas had one RBI each in the game. Joe Morrison suffered the loss on the mound as Iowa Wesleyan drops to 2-7-1 and finish off their spring break road trip. Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday for their home opener against Greenville University.


Darby Massner from Iowa Wesleyan women’s basketball was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America NCAA Division III women’s basketball team. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Massner is one of two individuals to repeat this honor and she jumped up from third team to first team academic All-America. The team consists of 15 women who have an average of 3.88, first team members averaged a 3.97 GPA average. Massner is one of five honorees who have a perfect 4.0 GPA.


The Senior Southeast Iowa All-Star Basketball Games are this Saturday March 16th. Taking place in Father Minett Gymnasium at Notre Dame High School in Burlington. The girls game will be played first at 5:15pm with a 3-point shooting contest at halftime. After that game there will be a dunk contest for the boys. The boys game will be begin at 7:15pm with a 3-point shooting contest at halftime. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students.

Today the Mt Pleasant varsity and JV boys track teams will be in Pella for an invitational taking place at Central College. This is the 2nd competition of the season as the team competed in the Dickson Relays last week in the UNI Dome.


On April 20th there is going to be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place at Mt Pleasant Middle School. There are several age groups for male and female teams to compete in. The cost is $60 per team and all checks should be made out to Mt Pleasant Tourney Team. For more information and to register contact Ronnie Ashton at (319)931-2896.


Mt. Pleasant recreational softball will be holding a Skills Assessment on Sunday, March 17 at Cottrell Gym. They ask that all girls attend this to help the board assign teams as evenly as possible. 3rd & 4th graders will be from 5-6 pm and 5th-7th grade from 6-7 pm. This is also another opportunity to register your daughter. They are missing a lot of registrations, so make sure to get your paperwork in as soon as possible.


College Basketball:

-Iowa State avenged their two regular season losses against Baylor yesterday with an 83-66 win in the Big 12 conference tournament. Cyclones advance to play Kansas State, a team they lost a dramatic 58-57 game back in January. Game time tonight is 6pm, pregame coverage will begin at 5pm on KILJ Radio 1130am and Winner of Iowa State/Kansas State will play the winner of Kansas/West Virginia for the Big 12 title tomorrow.

-Iowa was able to snap out of their end of regular season funk and were clicking on all cylinders in an 83-62 win over Illinois. Hawkeyes advance to play #10 Michigan, Iowa shocked the then #5 ranked Wolverines 74-59 back on February 1st. Game time tonight is 8:30pm, pregame coverage will begin at 7:30pm on 105.5fm and Winner of Iowa/Michigan will play the winner of Purdue/Minnesota in the semi-finals tomorrow.
