Iowa high school boys basketball state tournament final day results:
Class 3A Consolation:
-#7 Winterset defeated #4 Clear Lake 67-49, Winterset finished in 3rd place
Class 4A Consolation:
-#1 Waukee beat #2 North Scott 66-57, Waukee finished in 3rd place
Class 1A Championship:
-#1 Grand View Christian won their 3rd straight state championship with a 43-24 win over #7 Alburnett, Alburnett ends up as state runner up in their first ever state tournament appearance
Class 2A Championship:
-#1 North Linn was in control the entire game in a 60-41 win over #3 Boyden-Hull, Lynx won the title and went undefeated on the season
Class 3A Championship:
-#3 Oskaloosa won their first 3A title in a 48-44 victory over #1 Norwalk
Class 4A Championship:
-#3 Cedar Falls won back to back titles after beating #5 Dubuque Senior 44-41
Iowa Wesleyan baseball played a four game series over the weekend down in Pineville Louisiana against Louisiana College. On Saturday the Wildcats won 9-1 over the Tigers. Minami Matsumoto drove in the lone run for Iowa Wesleyan and Nick Salas was the only other Tiger to record a hit. Everett Swinson took the loss on the mound. The offense was quiet in the second Saturday game with the Tigers losing 2-1. Joe Morrison pitched a good game giving up only 1 run in five innings, Brandon Devillier took the loss from his relief role. Nick Salas and Dominic Gerace were the only IW players to record a hit, Salas also knocked in the only run of the game.
On Sunday the Wildcats bats came alive in a 15-4 win. Mitchell Wilcox took the loss on the mound. Parker Leland, Minami Matsumoto, and Trey Sherrill each hit doubles. Justin Klug hit an RBI triple in the game. In the second Sunday game Louisiana College completed the 4 game sweep in a 2-1 win. Clayon Lathen was the starting pitcher and had a good game allowing only 1 run in 5.2 innings of work. Wildcats took a 1-0 in the 1st but the Tigers were able to tie it up in the 7th inning thanks to a Nick Salas home run. Chazz Brown had a double in the game and Justin Klug recorded 1 stolen base. Tigers drop to 2-5-1 on the season and have another road trip this week. Wednesday the Tigers play in Jackson Mississippi against Belhaven University, and on Thursday they play in Conway Arkansas against Hendrix College.
Iowa Wesleyan softball played their first games of the season yesterday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. First game was against La Roche College and the Tigers won 3-0. Former New London standout Morgan Christner picked up the win in the circle. She held the Red Hawks scoreless and allowed just one hit while striking out 15 batters. Christner also hit an RBI double and Allison Daum and McKenna Woolery were able to drive in runs.
In the second game against Fitchburg State College the Tigers won a close 5-4 game. The game was tied 4-4 in the 6th inning but Emmy Rodriguez was able to hit an RBI single to lift the Tigers to victory. Iowa Wesleyan is 2-0 to start the season and today have games against Medaille College at 8:30am and then against Centenary College at 2:30pm.
Iowa Wesleyan cross country discovered some that some records were broken this past season. After looking in the archives it was found that Sierra Howardson set the Iowa Wesleyan women’s record for 4000 meters at 16:55.5 and the 6000 meter at 23:34.9.
On April 20th there is going to be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place at Mt Pleasant Middle School. There are several age groups for male and female teams to compete in. The regular season is over in college basketball and conference tournaments begins. Iowa is the #6 seed in the Big 10 tournament. Hawkeyes are on a 4 game losing streak entering tournament time. They get a first round bye and will play the winner of Illinois and Northwestern on Thursday around 8:30pm depending how the games ahead of them go. The Big 10 tournament is being held in the United Center in Chicago.
Iowa State is the #5 seed in the Big 12 tournament. Cyclones are on a 3 game losing streak entering tournament time. On Thursday they will play Baylor at 11:30am in the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
