The Mt. Pleasant boy’s track team ran at the Dickinson Relays at UNI Tuesday. Spencer White had the best finish, he ran 4th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.56. Zoom Gwamna finished 6th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.77. Ben Canby finished 7th in the shot put with a toss of 48’ 9 ½”.

The MPHS girl’s basketball team held their post season awards banquet last night. Head coach Dave Hutchcroft handed out the special awards. Rookie of the Year- Kalynn Batey, Most Potential – Bailey Johnson, Most Improved- Sarah Moffett, Most Improved- Shelby Allender, Coaches Award – Hannah Becker, Panther Award – Natalie Ita, MVP – Kelsi Phipps.

The Iowa Wesleyan softball team lost two 1 run games Tuesday losing to Dickinson 5-4 in bottom of 7th and then to Methodist University 4-3 in bottom of 8th.

Samantha Mcllwain pitched for the Tigers in the 1st game and leading the hitting was Haleigh Cowan who was 2-4 and Alli Willis 2-3 with an rbi.

In the 2nd game Stephanie Tillman was the pitcher, Haligh Cowan went 3-4 with 3 rbi’s, Andrea Bury was 2-2 with a double.

Wesleyan’s record is now Record 1-3.

 

The 2015 boy’s State Basketball Tournament had another full day of exciting action yesterday. The 2A semi final field is set for Thursday with Aplington Parkersburg vs Treynor, Pella Christian vs Iowa City Regina. The 3A semi finalists for Thursday night will be Williamsburg vs LeMars and Dubuque Wahlert against Cedar Rapids Xavier. Today there are only 4 games played those being the 4A 1st round games.

The 26-0 Danville Bears boy’s basketball team has advanced to the Semi final round Thursday at 12:15 p.m. and will play 24-1 Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto. The Bears won their 1st round game 69-47 over West Hancock Britt. Maple Valley won 51-45 over South O’Brien, Paullina. The Rams are coached by Brian Brown who has been coaching for 21 years, 14 of those at Maple Valley where he has amassed a record of 197 wins and 111 losses. His team won the championship this year in the Western Valley Conference, they have won 19 games in a row since falling to Dennison-Schleswig 59-45 in the 7th game of the season. For Coach Brown this is his 1st trip to state with a team, Maple Valleys best finish was 2nd place in 1981 when they were 2A. In 1985 Maple Valley was involved in the State Tournament’s longest game when they went 6 overtimes to win 87-81 over Northwood-Kensett. They are led in scoring by Korey Kuhlman at 16 pts. Per game, Derrik Kerns averages 15 and Shawn Flanigan averages 14. Flanigan’s mother is an assistant coach on the team. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.

During the boy’s state tournament this week there are some area girls participating in tourney events. Thursday two vocalists from Danville will open the daytime session by singing the National anthem, Landry Carr and Danielle Haeffner from the Danville High School vocal music department will sing the Anthem. Four dancers from MPHS will perform Friday three times on the All State Cheer Squad they are: Sidney Taylor, Jessie Sirivath, Claire Pickford and Allison Buckert.

The 2015 registration for the Mt. Pleasant Girls Softball ages pre-K-12th grade will be held March 14th at Van Allen Elementary from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration forms are also available at www.mpsoftball.com.

WACO Alumni we NEED YOU…The 3rd annual WACO vs. WMU alumni game is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 31st at 8p.m.  This 2015 game will be held at the Winfield complex during Crooked Creek Days.  Interested WACO Alumni should sign-up at www.alumnifootballusa.com.  A minimum of 25 alumni athletes from each school are necessary for the game to be officially scheduled. Less than 25 signed up athletes will cause the game to be be cancelled. Alumni Football USA and WACO Alumni athletes have raised more than $5,000 to benefit WACO Athletics . Warriors, lets keep the tradition alive and have some fun playing football.
