The Danville Bears advance onto the Class 1A semi finals after an impressive 69-47 win over West Hancock Britt Monday in 1st round play. Mason Speer scored 19 points, Connor Hoelzen scored 14 and Kolton Jackson added 12. Danville will face Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto Thursday at 12:15, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live. Maple Valley beat South O’Brien 51-45. The other two schools who were 1st round winners and semi final foes are Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Earlham.

During the boy’s state tournament this week Mt. Pleasant High Schools Competition Cheer team performs during 2A action on Today. Thursday two vocalists from Danville will open the daytime session by singing the National anthem, Landry Carr and Danielle Haeffner from the Danville High School vocal music department will sing the Anthem. Four dancers from MPHS will perform Friday three times on the All State Cheer Squad they are: Sidney Taylor, Jessie Sirivath, Claire Pickford and Allison Buckert.

The MPHS girls track team performed well at the Dickinson Indoor Relays at UNI Monday. Mary Wester won the shot put with a toss of 44’ 2 1/2”, she becomes only the 2nd champion the Panthers have ever had at this event. Lindsey Boldt won the 60 meter hurdles to the other past top finisher. Kelsi Phipps was 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles, Hannah Becker was 2nd in the high jump at 5’ and 5th in the 60 meter hurdles. 

IWC softball team split in the two games they played Monday on their spring break southern trip. Tigers beat Penn State Kingston 13-7. Samantha McIlwain was the winning pitcher. Kassie Vasquez was 4-5 with a triple. Game 2 saw Wesleyan lose to Penn State Harrisburg 11-3, Stephanie Tillman was the losing pitcher. Kassie Vasquez had a double, Kristine Becks hit a triple and had an rbi.

The baseball team faced Cazenovia in their second day of action while in Florida on their spring break trip.

The Tigers were able to hang on to get a 5-4 win.

Aaron Schulz picked up the win and Eric Torres came in for the save for the Iowa Wesleyan. Raul Lozano had a solo home run in the second inning and Devon Rager had an RBI single that gave the Tigers the lead in the second inning. Matt Murphy was 2-2 from the plate with two singles.

 

Michael Edgcombgot the start for the Tigers in game two of the double header. There was a lot of offense in the second game, as both teams combined for 24 runs and 29 hits in the game Wesleyan won 14-10.

Cole Fansenlow earned the win for the Tigers, allowing one run over three innings. He struck out one and gave up one run. Travis Kostello racked up four RBIs on three hits for Iowa Wesleyan. Tanner Anderson was 3-4 at the plate with two singles and a double and four RBIs in the game.

 

The 2015 registration for the Mt. Pleasant Girls Softball ages pre-K-12th grade will be held March 14th at Van Allen Elementary from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration forms are also available at www.mpsoftball.com.

WACO Alumni we NEED YOU…The 3rd annual WACO vs. WMU alumni game is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 31st at 8p.m.  This 2015 game will be held at the Winfield complex during Crooked Creek Days.  Interested WACO Alumni should sign-up at www.alumnifootballusa.com.  A minimum of 25 alumni athletes from each school are necessary for the game to be officially scheduled. Less than 25 signed up athletes will cause the game to be be cancelled. Alumni Football USA and WACO Alumni athletes have raised more than $5,000 to benefit WACO Athletics . Warriors, lets keep the tradition alive and have some fun playing football.
