Mt. Pleasant played in the Danville varsity softball tournament Saturday ending the day with 2 wins and 1 loss.  Panthers opened with a 14-2 win over Winfield Mt. union, Jena Stuckerjurgen pitched the win.  Sarah Moffet led the hitting with 2 homeruns in the 1st inning and driving in 4 runs.  Central Lee defeated the Panthers 2-1 in the 2nd game, Bailey Johnson suffered the loss in the circle.  Shelby Allender was 2-3 at the plate with a double and the RBI.  M.P. wrapped up the day with a 10-0 win over Danville, Shelby Allender was the winning pitcher.  Julie Lasswell was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, Bailey Johnson hit a triple.  Next action for MPHS is tomorrow in the Davis County Tournament.

 

Mt. Pleasant High School  dropped a home baseball double header to Muscatine  6-2 and 15-6 on Saturday.  Marcus Moothart suffered the loss on the mound in the 1st game, Cale Christner suffered the loss in the 2nd game.  Pat Canby and Levi Parkevich led the hitting.

 

Colton Mertens a senior to be at Mt. Pleasant High School has been working hard at developing his wrestling skills during the off season.  This past weekend he won his weight class in the Take Down Challenge Tournament held in Burlington.  Colton gave up no takedowns during the competition.

The Holy Trinity Catholic girls soccer team is one win away from qualifying for the State Soccer Championships this week in Des Moines after they defeated Mid Prairie 4-1 in a Regional semi-final match played in West Point on the Crusaders home pitch last Friday.  Kristen Brinck scored 3 of the 4 goals scored by the winners who will take a record of 13-3 into the Regional final Monday in Iowa City against 4th ranked  Iowa City Regina who is 14-3.

ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE:

MONDAY:  Burlington at MPHS freshman softball and Baseball 5:30 p.m.  TUESDAY:  MPHS  softball at Davis County Tournament playing the Mustangs, Eddyville-Blakesburg and Albia.  JV and varsity  baseball at Oskaloosa, West Liberty at M. P. JV softball.  WEDNESDAY:  New London at MPHS JV and varsity softball  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the varsity game at  7 p.m.  Notre Dame at MPHS JV and varsity baseball.  THURSDAY:  MPHS baseball at Washington KILJ-FM and kilj.com will broadcast the 1st game at 5:30 p.m.  MPHS softball at Washington, Washington at MPHS JV softball and baseball.  FRIDAY:  Davenport North at MPHS JV baseball.  SATURDAY:  Washington vs MPHS Alumni Football game 6 p.m.
 

There will be summer training runs for anyone interested in Cross Country starting today in Mt. Pleasant. Everyone is welcome and middle school runners are also encouraged to join.

There will be morning runs every Monday and Wednesday at 630 AM at the Old Threshers Theatre Museum.

There will be evening runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 700 PM at the Saunders Park.

There will be a 100 Mile club for those who keep track and run at least 100 miles during the summer break.

The runs will vary in mileage for all levels of runners. We look forward to seeing you there.

 

 

This summer, Iowa Wesleyan will host a variety of camps for volleyball.  The scheduled camps include junior high skills camp, high school skills camp, setter camp, speed/agility/strength camp, Tiger Cub camp, middles camp, outsides camp, and a libero camp.  All camps are open to boys and girls and are located at Iowa Wesleyan College in Ruble Arena. On Saturday, June 13, the 2nd Alumni Football Game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington High School Alumni will be held on Evans Field at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex to benefit University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

The event is organized by Alumni Football USA, and will consist of a full contact  football game, as well as various fundraising activities. The majority of event fundraising

comes from the presale of tickets, which are available at Browns Shoe Fit,

Mt. Pleasant Panther 2015 boy’s Summer Basketball Camp registration is open for elementary thru high school boys.  The 1st 1 week camp will be held June 22nd thru June 25th and week 2 will be July 13th thru 16th.  Elementary camp is for 3rd thru 5th graders.  Middle School camp for 6th thru 8th and High School camp is for 9th thru 12th graders.  Camps will be conducted by Coach Paul Rundquist, and his staff.  If you have questions contact coach Rundquist for more details.
