Mt. Pleasant and Ft. Madison split a Southeast Conference softball double header at Maple Leaf field last night.  Allison Buckert belted a 3 run homer in the 3rd inning of the 1st game to lead the Panthers to an 8-6 win, Julie Laswell added 2 doubles for M.P.  Cali Liechty pitched the win striking out 8.  In the 2nd game the Bloodhounds won 3-1, Shelby Allender suffered the loss in the circle.  Each team had 8 hits, leading Mt. Pleasant Julie Lasswell again going 2-4, Allender added a double.

OTHER AREA SOFTBALL SCORES:  New London 5  West Burlington-Notre Dame 3-Morgan Christner 11 k’s pitching  and a home run and 3 RBI’s  hitting for Tigers.  Lone Tree 4 Mediapolis 3-Allie Massner had 2 hits and an RBI for the Bullettes.  Fairfield swept Washington 5-3 and 9-2.  Wapello 6 Columbus 3.  Burlington swept Davenport West 11-6 and 19-7-Burlington had 29 hits total in the 2 games.

 

Mt. Pleasant swept Ft. Madison in Southeast Conference baseball at Maple Leaf Field 6-1 and 14-7.  In the opener Brady Anderson was the winning pitcher.  Tony Cristoforo was 2-3 at the plate and Cale Christner hit a triple.  Game two saw Beau Parkevich pick up the win on the mound strking out 8 Bloodhounds.  He was backed up by the hitting of Austin Smith who went 2 for 3 and Pat Canby was 2-4.

AREA BASEBALL SCORES:  Fairfield swept Washington 16-4 and 5-4, Pekin 21 Waco 6, Cardinal 4 Notre Dame 3, West Burlington 8 New London 1-Quincy Porter homered for Tigers.  Wapello 13 Columbus 2.  Davenport West twice over Burlington 4-2 and 5-1.   Mediapolis 2 Lone tree 0, WMU 5 L&M 0-Mathew Niebuhr and Ross Vantiger 2 RBI’s each for Wolves.

 

Danville-New London fell to Dyersville Beckman in the 1st round of the boys State Soccer Tournament by a 4-1 score.  The Match was tied 1-1 at halftime, Mason Speer scored for the Bears on an assist from Mason Lorber.  Danville-New London ends the year 15-2, Beckman moves to the semifinals today against Gladbrook-Reinbeck.  Council Bluffs St. Alberts and Gibert meet in the other semi.

 

Girls Regional Tournament soccer takes place tonight.  Holy Trinity Catholic plays host to Mid Prairie at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to the State Tournament next week.

 

MPHS Girls Tennis Award winners were honored this week.  Jessica Holtkamp (Captain), Afton Engberg (Most Improved Player). Meagan Woodard (Most Victorious Player), and Kiley Sourwine (Most Improved J.V. Player).

 
 

There will be summer training runs for anyone interested in Cross Country starting Monday June 8th   in Mt. Pleasant. Everyone is welcome and middle school runners are also encouraged to join.

There will be morning runs every Monday and Wednesday at 630 AM at the Old Threshers Theatre Museum.

There will be evening runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 700 PM at the Saunders Park.

There will be a 100 Mile club for those who keep track and run at least 100 miles during the summer break.

The runs will vary in mileage for all levels of runners. We look forward to seeing you there.

 

ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE: SATURDAY:  MPHS softball at Danville Tournament, Muscatine at MPHS baseball 1 p.m.

 

 

This summer, Iowa Wesleyan will host a variety of camps for volleyball.  The scheduled camps include junior high skills camp, high school skills camp, setter camp, speed/agility/strength camp, Tiger Cub camp, middles camp, outsides camp, and a libero camp.  All camps are open to boys and girls and are located at Iowa Wesleyan College in Ruble Arena. On Saturday, June 13, the 2nd Alumni Football Game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington High School Alumni will be held on Evans Field at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex to benefit University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

The event is organized by Alumni Football USA, and will consist of a full contact  football game, as well as various fundraising activities. The majority of event fundraising

comes from the presale of tickets, which are available at Browns Shoe Fit,
