9TH ranked Class 4A Mt. Pleasant swept West Burlington-Notre Dame in girls’ softball 5-3 and 19-12.  Bailey Johnson pitched both wins, she also hit her 11th homerun of the seasonin the 1st game to set a new school record.  Bettering the record of 10 round trippers in a season by Jody Wettach in the 1982 season.  In the 2nd game Anni Liechty was 4 for 5 at the plate and Morgan Fraise 3 for 4.  The twin wins give MPHS a 21-7 record heading into tonight’s conference double header at Washington. West Burlington is 10-22 and plays Columbus Community tonight on the road.

OTHER AREA SOFTBALL SCORES:  New London 11 Columbus Community 0, Morgan Christner threw a perfect game striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced.  #7 Keokuk blanked Mediapolis 9-0, #2 Durant-Bennett downed Wapello 8-1.

AREA SOFTBALL TONIGHT:  Burlington at Clinton, Central Lee at Cardinal of Eldon, Keokuk at Fairfield, New London at Mediapolis, Van Buren at Iowa Mennonite, Wapello at Highland and WMU at Danville.

Mt. Pleasant split a baseball double header at West Burlington last night.  The Falcons won the 1st game 10-9, coming from behind to erase a 9-4 M.P. lead.  Colby Potts suffered the loss on the mound.  Pat Canby, Zach Ebeling, Jordon Magnani, Caleb Potts and Cooper Huckabone all had 2 hits to lead the Panthers.  One of Canby’s hits was a homerun and Caleb Potts had 3 RBI’s.  In the 2nd game the Panthers won 18-8, Cale Christner was the winning pitcher.  Levi Parkevich had 2 home runs, Caleb Potts and Zach Ebeling also touched them all.  Potts and Ebeling each had 5 RBI’s.  The Panthers play at Washington in a conference double header tonight.

AREA BASEBALL ACTION TONIGHT:  Norte Dame at L&M, Central Lee at Cardinal, Keokuk at Fairfield, New London at Mediapolis, Van Buren at IMS, Wapello at Highland, WMU at Danville.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the District and Substate Tournament pairings for Class 1A and 2A teams in Iowa, next week they will put out the Class 3A and 4A pairings.  KILJ area Class 1A teams will play in District 10 that begins action on July 12th.  At Highland at 5 p.m. on July 12tyh Lone Tree will play WMU, at 7 p.m. Highland will host Holy Trinity Catholic.  New London will host 1st round action of July 12th with a double header.  At 5 p.m. Keota plays Burlington Notre Dame, New London battles Danville at 7 p.m.  Semi-finals will be played at Highland on July 14th and finals on July 16th at Highland.  District 9 & 10 District Champs will meet in the Substate final at Solon on July 19th.  The Class 2A KILJ area teams will open District play July 9th with a double header at Wapello, at 5 p.m. Pekin will play Central Lee and at 7 p.m. Wapello hosts West Burlington.  The semifinals will be played at Mediapolis on July 12th with Van Buren playing the Central Lee/Pekin winner at 5 p.m. and Mediapolis will host the Wapello/West Burlington winner at 7 p.m.  The District finals will be at Mediapolis July 16th at 7 p.m.  The District 10 and District 9 winners will meet in the substate at Washington on July 19th.
