MPHS softball team split with Burlington on the road Friday night.  Panthers won the opener 6-0, Shelby Allender threw a 3 hitter.  Panthers pounded out 9 hits led by Anni and Hattie Liechty with 2 hits each, Allison Buckert had a homerun.  Burlington took the 2nd game 9-3, outhitting M.P. 12-7. Jena Stukerjurgen was in the circle for the Panthers.  Jackie Fraise was 3-4 at the plate, Julie Lasswell homered.

IGHSAU latest softball rankings has New London moving from #5 to the #2 spot in Class 1A behind Akron-Westfield.  Class 2A has Highland ranked #1 and Wapello 7th.  Class 4A has Keokuk ranked 11th and Fairfield 13th.

Mt. Pleasant baseball team went to Waterloo and played 1 game Friday against West Marshall winning 5-1.  Dalton Shull pitched the win, Panthers belted out 12 hits spread up and down the batting order.  Panthers play Ottumwa Monday on the road.

The Iowa State Cyclone men’s basketball team is liking what they see from their preferred walk on player Jordon Ashton a former Mt. Pleasant Panther player.  Jordon in his latest game in the Des Moines Summer League scored 47 points.

 

After two rain delays Sunday night in St. Louis, the Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-1.  Redbirds have a record of 51-24.

8-14 years of age! Campers will learn the basic fundamentals of the proper grip, swing, and stance!

Olympic gold medalist and famed University of Iowa wrestling coach,  Dan Gable will speak at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, Thursday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. and sign his book, A Wrestling Life – The Inspiring Stories of Dan Gable. The event is free and open to the public.
          The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and the Trojan Athletic Booster Club have teamed up to bring Coach Gable to Fairfield with a meet and greet opportunity from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The Booster Club will be selling Iowa Pork Loin sandwiches and chips as part of Gable’s appearance in Fairfield.

 

 

There is summer training runs underway for anyone interested in Cross Country. Everyone is welcome and middle school runners are also encouraged to join.

There will be morning runs every Monday and Wednesday at 630 AM at the Old Threshers Theatre Museum.

There will be evening runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 700 PM at the Saunders Park.

There will be a 100 Mile club for those who keep track and run at least 100 miles during the summer break.

The runs will vary in mileage for all levels of runners.

 

During the 4th of July holiday weekend there is two golf tournaments to play in at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club.  On the morning of July 5th there is a 2 person Ryder Cup format tourney at 8 a.m.  6 holes of best shot, 6 holes of best ball and 6 holes of alternate shot, cost is $50 per team and open to the public.  In the afternoon on July 5th at 2 p.m. there is a 4 couple alternating best shot tournament.  Entry fee is $80 per team and it’s open to the public.
