Mt. Pleasant captured a 3-2 and 6-5 double header baseball sweep over Fairfield in Southeast Conference baseball at Maple Leaf Field last night.  The sweep puts MPHS  in the lead in the conference race with a 9-2 record ahead of Fairfield who is 7-2.  Brady Anderson pitched the win in the 1st game, Taylor Alliman had the only Panther hit, M.P. capitalized on Fairfield errors to score their 3 runs.  In the night cap Beau Parkevich came on in relief of Marcus Moothart to get the win on the mound.  Tyler Ruby, Tyler Davis and Pat Canby led the hitting.  Panthers play 2 games in the Waterloo Tournament today.  Also the IHSAA has announced the District assignment for the Panther baseball team.  Pairings will come next week, but we do know that Mt. Pleasant will be joined in Substate #6 with Centerville, Chariton, Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Oskaloosa and Pella.  One of those teams will be a state tournament qualifier.

Softball action from last night saw the Mt. Pleasant girl’s varsity team complete a suspended game from earlier this week in Ft. Madison and a complete game.  The Bloodhounds hung on to win the suspended game 8-4.  Sarah Moffett homered to lead the hitting in that game.  In the 2nd game M.P. won 8-2, Cali Liechty pitched the win Shelby Allender and Julie Lasswell homered and Jackie Fraise was 3-3 at the plate.  Panthers play a double header at Burlington tonight.

AREA SOFTBALL SCORES:  BURLINGTON SWEPT Davenport North 9-3 and 4-0.  West Burlington-Notre Dame 21 Van Buren 10, Central Lee 9 #10 Keokuk 2, #10 Wapello 5 WMU 1, L&M 7 Pekin 2.

A 13 year old Mt. Pleasant youth has been selected to play on the Central Region All American Baseball Team.  Rylan Seeberg was the 4th player chosen for the team.  65 players tried out for the team, they came from Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, S. Dakota, N. Dakota and Minnesota.  The team will travel to Florida August 2nd thru 8th to play at the ESPN Complex against the other regional teams from around the country.  Rylan will be the teams short stop.
