Mt. Pleasant the 11th ranked team in Class 4A protected their home field and avenged an earlier season loss to 5th ranked New London in girls softball at Maple Leaf Field last night. Panthers won 9-3. Bailey Johnson the winning pitcher sturck out 11 and also hit a 3 run homer. Sarah Moffett was 2 for 3, Jackie Fraise was 3 for 3. For New London Camryn Blint suffered the loss in the circle. Carson McSorely had 2 hits for the Tigers. Mt. Pleasant completes a suspended game tonight against Keokuk, the game was stopped in the 3rd inning because of weather earlier this season, play will resume at 6 p.m. on Maple Leaf Field. New London will play at Winfield Mt. Union tonight. New London won the JV game 5-4.
The MPHS baseball team traveled to Davis County last night for JV and varsity action. The Mustangs won the JV game 8-6. They also won the varsity game. Mt. Pleasant lost 6-5. Losing pitcher was Jordan Magnani.
In other softball scores from last night, West Burlington-Notre Dame defeated Winfield-Mt. Union 4-2 and no. 14 ranked Louisa Muscatine defeated Wilton 5-7.
Baseball scores last night, Keokuk defeated New London 8-2.
Baseball tonight; West Burlington is at Notre Dame, Columbus is at Lone Tree, Davenport North is at Fort Madison, Iowa Mennonite will be at Danville, Louisa Muscatine is at Central Lee, New London is at Winfield-Mt. Union and Pekin is at Wapello.
On the softball schedule for tonight; Columbus is at Lone Tree, Danville travels to Iowa Mennonite, Louisa Muscatine plays at Central Lee, New London is at Winfield-Mt. Union, Pekin is at Wapello and Van Buren is at WACO.
For Mt. Pleasant tonight: the softball team will play at home tonight at 6 p.m. They will be hosting Keokuk and completing a game that was suspended by weather earlier in the season.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has announced the Regional Tournament Pairings for the 1A, 4A and 5A schools the 2A and 3A pairings will come out today.
11th ranked Mt. Pleasant will have a 1st round bye, they will play the winner of the July 7th game between Washington at Maquoketa. MPHS will host the winner of that game on July 9th. If they win that game they would advance onto the Regional Final on July 12th. The other half of the Region has Marion playing at Clear Creek Amana July 7th, the winner goes to Oskaloosa to play the 5th ranked Indians on July 9th, with the winner of that game going to the July 12th Regional Final to be played at the highest seeded teams home field.
In Class 1A 5th ranked New London has a 1st round bye, they will host the winner of the July 5th game Waco at Danville on July 6th, other games in the top half of the Region are, Twin Cedars at Moravia, Moulton-Udell will play at Cardinal. 8TH ranked Calamus-Wheatland got the bye in the bottom part of the Region, they will play the winner of the WMU at IMS game, Keota plays at Sigourney and Tri-County plays at Lone Tree in 1st round games July 5th. Semi-final games will be July 8th and Regional final is July 11th.
In Class 5A Burlington plays at 14th ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie July 9th, other teams in their Region are: Iowa City High, Davenport Central and #2 ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
