Colton Mertens and James DeMeyer two Mt. Pleasant wrestlers had a good weekend of competition at the Rumble on the River in Dubuque. They both won the respective weight class, Mertens did not give up any takedowns during his title run.
The MPHS baseball team played in the Williamsburg Tournament Saturday. Panthers dropped both games. They fell to host school Williamsburg 9-4, Dalton Shull was the losing pitcher, Panthers had 5 singles spread out over 5 different batters. In the 2nd game Pella downed M.P. 17-10, Cale Christner suffered the loss on the mound, Pat Canby had a grand slam homer while going 3-4 at the plate.. MPHS plays at Ft. Madison tonight.

Jordan Ashton former Mt. Pleasant Panther and now Iowa State cyclone basketball player is playing in the Capital City League in Des Moines. The Capital City League is comprised of Iowa State, Drake, and other local college and high school players. Jordan was selected to play on the ADIO Chiropractic team along with Preseason All-American for Iowa State, Georges Niang. In his first game this past Wednesday; Jordan went 6-of-8 from 3-pt range while scoring to 25pts.
Jordon Spieth won the U.S. Open Golf Championship over the weekend for the 2nd straight year.
Olympic gold medalist and famed University of Iowa wrestling coach, Dan Gable will speak at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, Thursday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. and sign his book, A Wrestling Life – The Inspiring Stories of Dan Gable. The event is free and open to the public.
The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and the Trojan Athletic Booster Club have teamed up to bring Coach Gable to Fairfield with a meet and greet opportunity from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The Booster Club will be selling Iowa Pork Loin sandwiches and chips as part of Gable’s appearance in Fairfield.
There is summer training runs underway for anyone interested in Cross Country. Everyone is welcome and middle school runners are also encouraged to join.
There will be morning runs every Monday and Wednesday at 630 AM at the Old Threshers Theatre Museum.
There will be evening runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 700 PM at the Saunders Park.
There will be a 100 Mile club for those who keep track and run at least 100 miles during the summer break.
The runs will vary in mileage for all levels of runners.
During the 4th of July holiday weekend there is two golf tournaments to play in at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. On the morning of July 5th there is a 2 person Ryder Cup format tourney at 8 a.m. 6 holes of best shot, 6 holes of best ball and 6 holes of alternate shot, cost is $50 per team and open to the public. In the afternoon on July 5th at 2 p.m. there is a 4 couple alternating best shot tournament. Entry fee is $80 per team and it’s open to the public.
Mt. Pleasant Panther 2015 boy’s Summer Basketball Camp registration is open for elementary thru high school boys. The 1st 1 week camp will be held June 22nd thru June 25th and week 2 will be July 13th thru 16th. Elementary camp is for 3rd thru 5th graders. Middle School camp for 6th thru 8th and High School camp is for 9th thru 12th graders. Camps will be conducted by Coach Paul Rundquist, and his staff.
