The Alumni Football game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington was called to a halt with 7 minutes left to play in the game because of a thunderstorm that entered the area, the second one of the night.  Mt. Pleasant was leading 17-0 at the time and will claim their 2nd win in the 2 game series.  The Panther scoring started with 3:50 to play in the 1st quarter when Tyson Unrich ran in from 3 yards away, Marty Mertens kicked the point after and the Panther alums led 7-0.  The home team mounted another long drive just before halftime and were getting ready to attempt a 27 yard field goal when action was stopped because of a thunderstorm with 2 seconds left to play in the half.  After a 40 minute delay, play was resumed Marty Mertens kicked a 27 yard field goal to wrap up the 1st half action and then 2nd half play began.  Jacobe Rohde scored the final TD on a 3 yard run and Mertens added another P.A.T.  Shortly after that mother nature took over and the action ended.  There’s a lot of sore muscles today, but all the players will say it was worth it.  Several thousand dollars was raised for the the University of Iowa Childrens Hospital, the players thank everyone for your generous and enthusiastic support.

MPHS track and field alumni had a good day Saturday competing in the Senior All-Star Spotlight Track Meet in Dubuque.  Hannah Becker finished 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles, was 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles and was on the winning shuttle hurdle relay team.  Cole Phillips was named the outstanding boys performer for the meet after he won the 110 meter high hurdles, ran on the 2nd place shuttle hurdle relay and ran on the runner up 4×100 relay.  Spencer White finished 3rd in the 110 meter hurles and Ben Canby finished 2nd in the discus with a toss of 173′ 10″.
