Two strong high school softball teams, Mt. Pleasant and New London High School  were having quite a battle on the Maple Leaf diamond last night, but it was Mother Nature who proved to be stronger.  With 1 out in the top of the 6th inning and New London leading 3-0, lightning started flashing in the distance and the game was suspended before the winds and rain came.  The two teams will finish the game later this month as they are scheduled to meet again in New London June 24th.  That night a JV game will be played at 5:30 p.m. then the suspended varsity game will be finished, then another varsity game will be played.  New London scored 1 of their runs in the 3rd inning and added 2 more in the top of the 6th.  Breanna Metler and Emily Parks each had 2 hits.  M.P. had just 1 hit by Shelby Allender, 10 Panther batters struck out against Tiger pitcher Morgan Christner.  Bailey Johnson pitched for the Panthers giving up 3 runs off 8 hits, struck out 2 and walked none.  The Panthers were making a pitching change just as the weather hit.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the June 24th action live.  In the JV game M.P. won 6-1.  Tonight MPHS plays a varsity double header in the conference at Washington, 5:30 p.m. is game time.

The MPHS JV and varsity baseball teams hosted Burlington Notre Dame.  M.P. won the JV game 9-4.  In the varsity game MPHS was leading 4-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning when the game was suspended because of lightning.  Austin Smith and Pat Canby each had 2 run singles for the Panthers.  It’s doubtful  the game will be completed.  Tonight MPHS travels to Washington for a Southeast Conference double header, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the 1st game live at 5:30 p.m.
