On our sports report from the Iris Bowling Center and Splitz Lounge today….

The SCTP State Trap Meet started yesterday near Cedar Falls.  The Mt. Pleasant Trap Team had several individuals competing in the doubles and handicap events of day one.

For doubles, in the Men’s Rookie Division Nick Matheney took third with a 54 out of 100. In Women’s Intermediate Entry Jenna Smith tied for 2nd with MacKenzie Schnetzer of the GT RA Bulls Eye with a 75 out of 100 forcing a shoot off. Smith captured second in the shoot off with a 36 out of 50 to Schnetzer’s 33.

In the Men’s Junior Varsity Division, Parker Baugh finished third with an 87 out of 100 and Aaron Bodenham took first with a 90 out of 100.

In the handicap event, from the 25 yard line in Men’s Intermediate Entry Jacob Bailey finished second with a 82 out of 100. In Women’s Intermediate Entry also from the 25 yard line, Jenna Smith finished first with a 87 out of 100. For Men’s Junior Varsity from the 25 yard line, Aaron Bodenham shot an 85 out of 100 to bring home second.

The Panthers continue the State Shoot on today with Varsity and Junior Varsity 100 16 yard singles shot. The second 100 will be shot on Saturday. The Panthers will finish the State Shoot on Sunday with the Rookie and Intermediate Division shooting singles.

The Mt. Pleasant Panther girls softball team hosted the Washington Demons in a conference double-header last night.  The ranked No. 7 in Class 4A team won both games.  The first game was 2-1 and the second game saw a final score of 7-6.  Up next for the Panthers: they host Fairfield on Monday.

Other softball scores: Class 1A No. 8 ranked New London topped Pekin 10-0, it was Bettendorf defeating Burlington 1-0 and 15-6, Danville beat Columbus 7-6, Louisa-Muscatine won over WACO 18-1 and Wapello (No. 14 in Class 2A) defeated Lone Tree 8-1.

The Mt. Pleasant Panthers baseball team also hosted Washington in a conference double header last night.  The first game, which you heard on KILJ, had the Panthers lost the Demons 2-5.  They came back though and won the second game 9-1.

In other games from last night: Cardinal defeated Notre Dame 5-3, Danville won over Columbus 8-0, it was W-MU beating Holy Trinity Catholic 15-0, West Burlington topped IMS in a big way 21-0, Lone Tree defeated Wapello 4-2 and Pekin defeated New London 5-2.
