Mt. Pleasant picked up 3 wins in the Davis County Tournament yesterday, Panthers picked up wins 10-3 over Albia, 10-1 over Davis County and edged #7 Eddyville-Blakesburg 4-3.  Panthers play host to  #7 New London tonight in JV-Varsity action beginning at 5:30 p.m.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the varsity game live.  New London won 2 of 3 games at the Davis County Tournament.  They beat Albia 12-0 and Davis County 13-6, but fell to #7 class 2A  Eddyville Blakesburg 4-2.  Shelby Allender of MPHS picked up 2 wins in the circle and Bailey Johnson hit 2 homeruns on the day 1 was a grand slam, Julie Lasswell also homered. Julie Lasswell, Bailey Johnson and Shelby Allender were named to the All Tournament team.

AREA SOFTBALL SCORES:  Albia beat Central Lee 17-5, Central Lee lost to Davis County 8-5 and to #7 Eddyville Blakesburg 12-0.  Burlington swept Ft. Madison 11-7 & 5-3, Oskaloosa swept Washington 5-2 & 7-5.  Mediapolis beat Waco 19-0 Allie Massner had a 2 run triple the Bullettes worked 16 walks.  Pekin 12 WMU 1.  Columbus Community swept IMS 14-1 and 18-6.  Highland 8 L&M 0.  Wapello 11 Lone Tree 2.

MPHS baseball played at Oskaloosa last night, they fell to the undefeated Indians 14-4.  Brady Anderson suffered the loss on the mound.  Pat Canby was 4-4 with 2 doubles.  Cale Christner had a triple and 2 RBI’s. Panthers tonight will host Notre Dame in JV and Varsity action.

AREA BASEBALL SCORES:  New London 14 Holy trinity Catholic 2-Reno Chiri threw a 2 hitter.  Pekin 5 WMU 3-Kleyton Benedict of WMU threw a 3 hitter and struck out 14.

Mt. Pleasant High School had two teams compete in the Class 2A State Coed golf Tournament, Emily Cox and Jordon Phomsouvandara finished 30th shooting a 90 tying with the other Panther duo of Elle Schliesman and William Kinney who also shot 90.  A team from Waukee Paige Seiser and Parker Howe won with a 71 score. A team from Clear Lake won the Class 1A Coed State Golf Title yesterday, 2 New London teams competed.  Emily Snelling and Dane Waldron of Clear Lake shot 68 to win the state title.  Finishing 4th was Emma Pry and Hagin Gillis of New London, they shot 81.  Jorgi Krieger and Tristan Kadel of New London shot an 86 to finish 19th.

ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE: WEDNESDAY:  New London at MPHS JV and varsity softball KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast the varsity game at 7 p.m.  Notre Dame at MPHS JV and varsity baseball.  THURSDAY:  MPHS baseball at Washington KILJ-FM and will broadcast the 1st game at 5:30 p.m.  MPHS softball at Washington, Washington at MPHS JV softball and baseball.  FRIDAY:  Davenport North at MPHS JV baseball.  SATURDAY:  Washington vs MPHS Alumni Football game 6 p.m.

Cleveland has taken a 2 games to 1 lead in the NBA Championship series after beating Golden State 96-91.  Former Ames High School standout Harrison Barnes was held scoreless by the Cavaliers defense.  Game 4 coming up in Cleveland Thursday night.

Major League Baseball saw a no hitter last night.  Chris Heston of San Francisco threw a no hitter at the New York Mets in a 5-0 Giants win.  4th year in a row that San Fran has had a no hitter thrown by their pitching staff.

On Saturday, June 13, the 2nd Alumni Football Game between Mt. Pleasant and Washington High School Alumni will be held on Evans Field at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex to benefit University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. The event is organized by Alumni Football USA, and will consist of a full contact  football game, as well as various fundraising activities. The majority of event fundraising comes from the presale of tickets, which are available at Browns Shoe Fit, HyVee Food Store, Anywhere Apparel, and Press Box Grill and Bar, Z’s Quick Break and Pep Stop all located in Mt.Pleasant.
