The 10th ranked MPHS girls’ softball team blanked Wapello last night 5-0 at Maple Leaf field. Cali Liechty who played in the State Golf Tournament in the afternoon, traveled home from Ames and threw a 3 hit shutout in the circle for the Panthers. Jackie Fraise, Morgan Fraise and Chi Glaha each had 2 hits. Sarah Moffett had 2 RBI’s. Panthers continue conference action tonight playing a double header at Ft. Madison.

Mt. Pleasant battled Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont at Maple Leaf Field last night winning the varsity game 11-0 and the JV game 3-2. In the varsity game the winning pitcher was Jordon Magnani who threw a 3 hitter and struck out 5. Keegan Rich was 2-3 at the plate, Pat Canby doubled and Caleb Potts knocked in 3 runs. In the JV game Keegan Rich, Caleb Potts and Trace White led the hitting and Cooper Huckabone pitched the win. The MPHS freshman won their games at Fairfield yesterday also.

The MPHS girls’ golf team finished 6th in the State Golf Tournament played at Coldwater Links Course in Ames shooting a 394-39-786, Washington won the team title for the 2nd year in a row with 351-364-715, Fairfield was 2nd 369-363-732. Cali Liechty was low for the Panthers shooting 95-95-190, Haley Booton had 95-98-193, Ally Lowe 102-98-200, Keri Herr 102-101-203, Annie Liechty 104-110-214, Chloe Beavers shot 112-113-225. Haley Booton for the 2nd year in a row was named 1st team All-State and Cali Liechty was named 2nd team All-State. Sarah Nacos of Washington again was medalist shooting 78-76-154, Lindsey Repp of Fairfield was runner-up 83-80-163.
The New London Tigers girls’ golf team are the State Champions in Class 1A golf after shooting a two day total 666 going 337 on Tuesday and 329 on Wednesday. Akron Westfield finished as runner-up at 740. In medalist play Emma Pry finished runnerup with a 775-76-151 total one stroke better than teammate Casey Noble who shot 76-76-152. Medalist champion was Samantha Knight with a 73-73-146 score. The other Tiger scores were: Paetyn Prottsman 94-88-182, Frankie Johnson 93-89-182, Morgan Oliver shot 93-95-188 This is the 1st state golf title for coach Greg Lerdal and the New London Tiger girls golf team.
The 2016 Iowa High School Athletic Association State Soccer championships begin today in Des Moines. Columbus Community/Winfield Mt. Union will play their Class 1A 1st round match at 12:15 p.m. against Kuemper Catholic of Carroll.
The MP girls’ tennis team had their awards/recognition banquet Tuesday night. Letter winners included Sr. Aline Thiengmany-2nd, Sr. Afton Engberg-2nd, So. Meagan Sutherland-1st, Jr. Kylie Sourwine-1st, Jr. Thuan Tran-1st, So. Quin Whaley-1st, and Jr. Sheyanne Walter 1st.

Girl’s Class 2A Regional Pella and N.D.-W.B.-Danville will play in the Regional Championship Monday at Pella.
Class 1A Regional Holy Trinity Crusaders will play host to Fairfield in the Regional semi-final Monday.
The Columbus Community-Winfield Mt. Union boys’ soccer team has qualified for the State Soccer Championships in Des Moines this week. Their 1st round match will be against #3 seed Kuempker Catholic of Carroll at James C.Cownie Soccer Complex field #8 at 12:15 Thursday afternoon.

The WACO CSD Foundation will host a Golf Outing on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Golf and Country Club in Washington, Iowa. The outing is a 4 person, best ball, shotgun start tournament. Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. and the golf begins at 3:00 p.m.
Funds raised will benefit WACO athletes and community with the construction of a weight room and fitness center.

The Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Athletic Club Annual Golf outing will be held Friday June 10th at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington. Registration begins at 9 a.m. A shotgun start begins at 10 a.m. The post outing reception begins at 4 p.m. The cost is $100 per player, $400 per team and there is a 36 team limit. Golfers get 18 holes of golf with cart, box lunch, beverage tickets along with the post outing reception and raffle drawings. There will also be a number of contests during the tournament. Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield will battle in an Alumni Football game Saturday June 18th in Fairfield. Advance tickets are on sale right now for $10 each from Alumni game participants. Friday June 3rd the Panther Alumni team will be at the Pep Stop selling T-shirts and tickets so stop by and buy! Kickoff is at 7 p.m. night of the game.
