Fairfield ranked 14th in 4A softball handed the MPHS softball team a double header loss in Southeast Conference action at Fairfield last night 8-7 and 3-0, the two games were postponed from Monday night. Shelby Allender pitched the 1st game, Allison Buckert was 3-4 with 4 RBI’s. Hattie Liechty and Bailey Johnson were 3-3. Cali Liechty suffered the loss in the circle, Allison Buckert led the hitting. MPHS ends the regular season 17-19 and opens tournament play at home against Ft. Madison tomorrow night at 7 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.
Girls Class 1A Regional softball results from Tuesday night: Van Buren beat WMU 15-3, Ana Shurr suffered the loss in the circle for the Lady Wolves who end the year 3-23. Leading the hitting Lexee Hartsock went 2-3. Van Buren will now play Cardinal of Eldon at Cardinal tonight at 7:15 p.m. as part of a double header that will have #2 ranked new London playing Keota at 5:30 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry that game live. Keota beat Harmony last night 11-1, Harmony ends the year 0-13. Moravia downed Seymour 10-0. Moravia plays at North Mahaska tonight in New Sharon and Sigourney plays host to Moulton-Udell.
Class 2A Regional results: Pekin beat Danville 12-0, Lisbon beat West Branch 7-6. Tonight Pekin plays at Eddyville-Blakesburg, Lisbon visits Wapello, CMB goes to West Marshall, Columbus Community is at Iowa City Regina.
Class 3A Regional play tonight: Mediapolis at Mt. Vernon, Northeast Goose Lake at L&M, West Liberty at West Burlington-Notre Dame, Mid Prairie at Central Lee.
Mt. Pleasant hosted Mediapolis in non-conference baseball last night and won 10-1, Dalton Shull was the winning pitcher and Taylor Alliman was 3-3 at the plate. Panthers have won 9 of their last 10 games and will make up their conference double header with Fairfield at noon tomorrow and will then play in the evening a JV-Varsity double header against L&M. Panthers found out they open district tournament play at Oskaloosa against Chariton at 7 p.m. on July 17th, Oskaloosa and Centerville are the other two teams involved.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has announced their final softball rankings for the summer of 2015. Class 1A has New London ranked 2nd just behind #1 Akron-Westfield. Class 2A saw Highland drop from #1 to #3 in the poll, Wapello dropped from 7th to 9th, Ft. Dodge St. Edmond is #1. Class 3A saw West Burlington-Notre Dame enter the poll at #15, Solon is #1. Class 4A has Keokuk hanging onto the #11 spot and Fairfield dropped to 14th this week from 13th last week. ADM-Adel is ranked #1. Class 5A has West Des Moines Valley ranked #1 replacing Iowa City West who dropped to 4th.
WMU vs. WACO Alumni Football Game…Friday July 31st, kickoff is at 8:00pm at WMU High School football field. Tickets are available for purchase from any player as well at Winfield City Hall. Presale tickets are $10.00 each and $5.00 from each presale ticket is given back to WMU.
