Mt. Pleasant girls’ softball team ranked 9th in Class 4A , wears the Southeast Conference championship crown after sweeping Washington in a double header on the Demons home field last night by scores of 11-6 and 10-0.  Bailey Johnson picked up the win in the circle in the 1st game and Cali Liechty in the 2nd, the Panther batting order hit well from top to bottom.  With the sweep the Panthers win their 1st softball conference championship since 2001 and their 3rd in school history, they end the regular season 12-4 in the conference, 1 game ahead of Keokuk and are 27-9 overall going into tournament time.

5th ranked New London opened up their tournament trail with a 10-0 win over Danville on Prottsman Field in New London in the quarterfinals of the 1A Regional.  Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 1st inning lead with the help of a 3 run homerun stroked by Breanna Metler who was 2 for 3 at the plate for the night.  Morgan Christner pitched the win throwing A 1 hitter and striking out 14 Bear batters.  New London has a 22-10 record now and will host Moravia Friday night in the semi-final game that you will hear on KILJ-FM 105.5 and  Moravia scored a 2-1 win last night over Cardinal of Eldon.  6th ranked Calamus Wheatland rolled over IMS 13-2 and Sigourney crushed Tri-County 15-5.  Sigourney will play at Calamus-Wheatland Friday night in the other semi-final.

CLASS 2A REGIONAL ACTION-Wapello won at Wilton 5-4 after trailing 4-0.  L&M beat Columbus Community 13-1.  Friday Wapello goes to Durant and Highland plays at L&M.

CLASS 3A REGIONAL ACTION-#2 ranked Davenport Assumption beat Mediapolis 6-0 as the Bullettes could only muster 1 hit against the Knight’s pitching.  West Burlington-Notre Dame beat Central Lee 9-1.  Friday West Burlington-Notre Dame goes to Assumption and Davis County plays Albia at Centerville.

CLASS 4A REGIONAL ACTION-begins tonight when Washington plays at Maquoketa winner plays Mt. Pleasant Saturday night.  Marion plays at Clear Creek-Amana, the winner plays at Oskaloosa Saturday.

M.P. Panther baseball team opens the tournament trail on Friday July 15th at 5 p.m. when they play Keokuk in the 1st game of a double header at Fairfield.  Ft. Madison will play 9th ranked Fairfield in the 2nd game of the tournament double header on the Trojans field.  The winner from Friday will meet Monday July 18th at 7 p.m. in Fairfield.  The winner of that game will be the District #10 champion and play the District #9 champion at Washington on July 20th at 7 p.m.  District #9 pairings on July 15th has at 5 p.m. Mt. Vernon playing Clear Creek-Amana, followed by Washington playing the host school Solon.  The winners meet on July 18th at Solon and that winner goes to Washington on the 20th.
