Some played and some didn’t on the opening night of girl’s Regional softball tournament action. The Winfield Mt. Union game at Van Buren in Keosauqua was rained out and will be played tonight at 7 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live. Two games in the Regional did get played, Moulton-Udel beat Tri County 9-7 and North Mahaska won over Twin Cedars 15-9.
The MPHS softball team conference double header at Fairfield was weathered out last night and rescheduled for tonight at 5:30 in Fairfield.
The MPHS baseball twin bill at Fairfield also was weathered out, the two schools are still trying to work out a date and time to reschedule. The Panther boys are hosting Mediapolis tonight in JV-Varsity action, the Mediapolis varsity beat Notre Dame last night 3-1.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has announced their final softball rankings for the summer of 2015. Class 1A has New London ranked 2nd just behind #1 Akron-Westfield. Class 2A saw Highland drop from #1 to #3 in the poll, Wapello dropped from 7th to 9th, Ft. Dodge St. Edmond is #1. Class 3A saw West Burlington-Notre Dame enter the poll at #15, Solon is #1. Class 4A has Keokuk hanging onto the #11 spot and Fairfield dropped to 14th this week from 13th last week. ADM-Adel is ranked #1. Class 5A has West Des Moines Valley ranked #1 replacing Iowa City West who dropped to 4th.
WMU vs. WACO Alumni Football Game…Friday July 31st, kickoff is at 8:00pm at WMU High School football field. Tickets are available for purchase from any player as well at Winfield City Hall. Presale tickets are $10.00 each and $5.00 from each presale ticket is given back to WMU.
There is summer training runs underway for anyone interested in Cross Country. Everyone is welcome and middle school runners are also encouraged to join.
There will be morning runs every Monday and Wednesday at 630 AM at the Old Threshers Theatre Museum.
There will be evening runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 700 PM at the Saunders Park.
There will be a 100 Mile club for those who keep track and run at least 100 miles during the summer break.
The runs will vary in mileage for all levels of runners.
