Saturday the Mt. Pleasant High School softball team dropped both their games in the Iowa City West Tournament.  Charles City handed M.P. a 7-3 defeat in their morning game.  Shelby Allender was the losing pitcher, Bailey Johnson and Jackie Fraise had doubles, Fraise had 2 RBI’s.  In the afternoon game Iowa City West beat the Panthers 10-4, Cali Liechty pitched, Morgan and Jackie Fraise had 2 hits each and so did Allison Buckert.

In the Friday action at the tournament M.P. fell to #4 ranked Pleasant Valley 13-1.  Cali Liechty was the losing pitcher, Anni Liechty had the RBI. Panthers then beat Davenport North 4-0, Shelby Allender winning pitcher.  Kaley White was 2-3.
Mt. Pleasant is 17-17 and will play at Fairfield tonight to wrap up conference play.

Class 1A Regional softball action begins tonight.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will bring you the WMU Lady Wolves tournament opener at Van Buren, airtime is 7 p.m.  WMU is 3-22 heading into the post season, Van Buren is 8-16.  Karlie Wade leads the Lady Wolves offense batting .340, Samantha Jamison hits at a .310 clip.  Van Buren is led by Hannah Heiserman who is batting .527.
The winner of this game will advance to Wednesday’s action against Cardinal at Cardinal at 7:15 p.m.  Also tonight Harmony 0-12 plays at Keota against the Eagles, with the winner playing #2 ranked New London at Cardinal Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Class 2A Regional games tonight has Danville 5-14 at Pekin and Lisbon at West Branch.

 

 

ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE: MONDAY:  MPHS varsity girls and boys softball and baseball at Fairfield in double headers that begin at 5:30 p.m.  Fairfield JV softball and baseball teams play at MPHS at noon today in double headers.  TUESDAY:  MPHS JV softball at Burlington, MPHS JV and varsity baseball host Mediapolis at 5:30 p.m.  WEDNESDAY:  MPHS JV baseball host Keokuk at 5:30 p.m.  THURSDAY:  MPHS JV and varsity baseball host L&M.  FRIDAY:  Knoxville at MPHS varsity baseball double header 5 p.m.

 

There is summer training runs underway for anyone interested in Cross Country. Everyone is welcome and middle school runners are also encouraged to join.

There will be morning runs every Monday and Wednesday at 630 AM at the Old Threshers Theatre Museum.

There will be evening runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 700 PM at the Saunders Park.

There will be a 100 Mile club for those who keep track and run at least 100 miles during the summer break.

The runs will vary in mileage for all levels of runners.
