Mt. Pleasant High School softball team played in the Iowa City West tournament in Iowa City on the Iowa Hawkeye Softball Complex Friday & Saturday.  Panthers tangled with #11 ranked Class 5A Davenport West in the 1st game Friday and fell 5-1.  Cali Liechty suffered the loss in the circle.  Panthers had only 2 hits, one of those a double by Jackie Fraise, Morgan Fraise had the RBI. In the 2nd game M.P. rolled over 14th ranked Class 1A Lisbon 12-0, Bailey Johnson threw a 1 hitter to get the win.  Bailey also hit 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI’s, Anni Liechty had 2 hits and an RBI.                                 Then on Saturday the Panthers defeated North Scott in the 1st game 9-1, Cali Liechty was the winning pitcher, Anni Liechty was 3-4 at the plate and Bailey Johnson homered again and added a double.  In the 2nd game the Panthers beat Muscatine 7-6, Bailey Johnson the winning pitcher and she hit another homerun.  Sarah Moffett and Jackie Fraise each had 3 hits.  Fraise for the day went 5 for 7 in the two games.  Bailey Johnson now has 15 homeruns on the year as she continues to re-write the record book in that stat.  Panthers host Fairfield tonight beginning at 5:30 p.m. and makeup a double header against Washington tomorrow night.  Also tonight Ft. Madison plays at Keokuk and Washington goes to Central Lee.

Class 1A Girls Regional softball tournament action begins tonight.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will be broadcasting tonight from Danville where the Bears host the Waco Warriors, first pitch is at 7 p.m.  The winner of this game plays at New London against the Tigers tomorrow night and KILJ will be broadcasting that action also. Other area games has Twin Cedars at Moravia, Moulton-Udell at Cardinal of Eldon, WMU at IMS, Keota at Sigourney and Tri-County at Lone Tree.                                                       Class 2A Regional play has Tipton at Wapello and Van Buren at Pekin.

MPHS baseball team played two games at Knoxville Friday night and won them both by 14-5 and 9-7 scores.  In the 1st game Colby Potts and Dalton Shull pitched the win.  M.P. had 9 hits led by Zach Ebling and Caleb Potts each with 2.  In the 2nd game Zach Beason made his 1st varsity start and pitched the win with relief help from Pat Canby.  Levi Parkevich, Cale Christner and Pat Canby had 2 hits each.  Mt. Pleasant will host 9th ranked Fairfield for two conference games today to decide the Southeast conference Championship.                                                                                                           OTHER AREA BASEBALL GAMES: Ft. Madison at Keokuk, Wapello at Highland, WMU at New London, Clinton at Burlington, Mediapolis at Notre Dame.

The Holy Trinity Catholic Athletic Board Golf Outing is coming up July 22nd at the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course rural Ft. Madison.  This is a 4 person best shot, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.  Cost is $75 per golfer or $300 for a team of four.
