Iowa State High School Baseball Championships in Des Moines Class 1A and 2A semi finals were played yesterday.  Mason City Newman scored an 11-1 win over Martensdale St. Mary’s and Pleasantville won 6-3 over North Linn.  Those winners play Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the 1A championship.  Class 2A semis had Waterloo Columbus beat Cascade 5-3 and Clear Lake beat Davis county 20-1.  Those winners play the 2A championship Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Class 3A semi finals today Waverly Shell-Rock plays Boone at 11 a.m.  Pella plays Harlan at 1:30.  The 4A semis tonight have Waukee playing S.E. Polk at 5 p.m. and Cedar Rapids Kennedy tangles with Iowa City West at 7:30 p.m.  The 3A final will be played Saturday at 5 p.m. and the 4A at 7:30 p.m.

 

The 2015 Mt. Pleasant football camp will be from Aug 5-7. Grades 9-12 will go from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and grades 7-8 will go from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. To participate, bring your completed physical, concussion and consent forms.  For more information contact varsity head football coach Shawn Striegel.  Registration forms for the 2015 Mt. The 2015 high school football season is just a few weeks away.  The Mt. Pleasant Panthers will open at home August 29th against the Ottumwa Bulldogs a team that beat M.P. fell to 42-21 to open the 2014 season.  Other non-district games will be played at Mediapolis in week #2, Bulldogs won over the Panthers 35-6 last year.  September 18th Mt. Pleasant goes to Chariton a team they beat  57-33 last year who is led by 1st team all-state tight end T.J. Hockenson who has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Other wins came against Keokuk 18-13 and Ft. Madison 48-24 in the district.  Returning starters for MPHS include Joe Hess at quarterback, he threw 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while amassing 1543 yards and completing 96 of 163 passes.  Keegan Pullis, Collin Baccam and Cam Keomanavong return in the offensive line.  Pat Canby returns at running back and linebacker.  Other defensive starters are:  Cori Fitten, Zac Ebbling, Trey Cosgrove and Pullis.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry all Panther games live.

 

Some area softball players have received post season honors from the Iowa Girls Softball Coaches Association;  CLASS 4A 3RD TEAM ALL STATE:  senior Shelby Allender Mount Pleasant. CLASS 1A- Morgan Christner New London 11, Emily Parks New London 12, 2ND TEAM:  Jorgi Krieger New London 12.  HONROABLE MENTION: Kenadi Schulte New London 11.

 

The Mount Pleasant Park and Recreation Department is now taking registration for their Youth Summer Volleyball Camp for Girls in grades 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade! This camp will gear you up for the upcoming season! You will learn the basic fundamentals along with fun!
