Bailey Johnson of the Mt. Pleasant Panther softball team has received more post season honors. Bailey was named 1st team All State Class 4A. During her just completed junior season she batted .500, struck out just 8 times while walking 27 times in 108 at bats. She also scored 32 runs, knocked in 69 RBI’s, had 14 doubles, 2 triples and had a school record 15 homeruns. Bailey’s pitching stats were impressive also. She had a 16-2 record, pitched 120 innings, her earned run average was 2.45, had 97 strikeouts and walked just 8 batters. Other area players making Class 4A All State: Kaylee Watson Fairfield and Michaela Davis Keokuk.
Class 1A All State selection is Morgan Christner a senior for the New London Tigers. Morgan finished with over 1400 strike outs in her high school pitching career.
The MPHS baseball team had one player make All-District 2nd team. Pat Canby was named 2nd team All-District at shortstop by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association.
In Class 1A State Baseball semi-final action, unranked Remsen St. Mary’s scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to upset defending champion and top-ranked Newman Catholic 5-3, it was the Knights’ first loss to a 1A team since the 2014 title game.
The West Sioux Falcons executed a perfect squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh to capture a 2-1, walk-off victory over the Don Bosco Dons, advancing them to the 1A championship match against fellow War Eagle Conference member Remsen St. Mary’s.
Top-seeded Clear Lake won the Class 3A state in 2013, and the 2A title last year. The Lions are back in the title game again this year. They will meet Kuemper Catholic on Saturday for the championship. Clear Lake defeated Hinton in the semi-finals 10-7 and Carroll Kuemper won in the semis over Pleasantville 7-1.
Class 3A semi-final games today Harlan vs Solon and Carlisle vs Pella. Tonight the 4A semis will have Waukee playing Cedar Rapids Prairie and Iowa City West battles Des Moines Roosevelt.
The Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa has a huge racing program scheduled for Monday August 1st and Tuesday August 2nd. It’s the 1st annual Summerfest Late Model show. Two big nights of pedal to the metal racing that will thrill every fan in the stands, so be there both nights to see who takes home the big purse.
The New London Masonic Lodge golf tourney scheduled for this Saturday July 30th has been postponed to August 13th at the Deerwood Golf Course in New London.
Mt. Pleasant High School 9th-12th grade Football Camp will run August 3-5 from 8:00 to 11:00 am. Show up at Maple Leaf by 7:45 am.
7th and 8th Grade Football Camp is August 3-5, 1:30 to 3:00 pm.

The Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club Young Guns Golf post season banquet will be held August 1st, instead of August 2nd. The banquet begins at 6 p.m. families are asked to bring a side dish to share.
