SPORTS JULY 28, 2015

Mother nature threw the Mediapolis Bulldog baseball team a curve at the Class 2A State Baseball Championships in Des Moines Monday as they fell 6-2.  Mepo was battling against #1 ranked Cascade and battling well, they tied the game at 2 a piece in the top of the 5th inning and then fell behind 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th.  That’s when the thunderstorms started and the rain relay began.  That delay lasted from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.  When play resumed Cascade put two runners on and followed with back to back doubles to build a 6-2 lead which turned out to be the final score.  The Bulldogs managed just 3 hits and Tim Diewold suffered the loss on the mound, they end the season with a 21-10 record.  Other 2A play saw Waterloo Columbus beat Hinton 3-0 and Clear Lake blanked Treynor 5-0.  This morning Davis County will play Roland Story to wrap up the 1st round games for the class.  Then 3A games will start, Waverly Shell-Rock vs Vinton-Shellsburg, Boone plays Sargent Bluff, Harlan battles Dubuque Wahlert and Pella tangles with Dallas Center Grimes.
