SPORTS JULY 24, 2015

New London had 1 bad inning in their state tournament semifinal softball game against Logan Magnolia Thursday and that led to a bad outcome.  The Tigers suffered a 4-1 loss in the semis after allowing 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning.  4 hits by the Panthers and 2 bases loaded walks plus some mental errors in the field proved very costly for the #2 ranked team in the state, New London.  The Tigers now play for 3rd place in the tournament when they meet River Valley high School in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast live.  Logan Magnolia will met A.G.W.S.R. High School in the championship game at 7 p.m.  New London’s only run in the game came in the bottom of the 6th inning when Morgan Christner stroked a solo homer.  Morgan suffered the loss in the circle she struck out 8, walked 2 and allowed 6 hits.  Breanna Metler had a double for the Tigers who suffered 14 strikeouts in the game.  River Valley is ranked 9th, have a record of 27-8.  They come from Woodbury County and are making their 1st appearance in the State Tournament.  River Valley is the team that knocked off #1 ranked Akron Westfield in the Regional final with a walk off 2 run homer by MaKenna Thomas to win the game.  That should sound like a familiar finish for New London fans as they also punched their State Tournament ticket when Jorgi Krieger stroked a 2 run walk off homer against Sigourney in the Regional final.
