The 2016 Iowa High School Girl’s State Softball Tournament wrapped up Friday in Ft. Dodge.  Championships were decided in 5 classes.  Class 1A winner was Kee High of Lansing they beat defending state champion Akron-Westfield 7-3.  Class 2A saw Van Meter down Iowa City Regina 3-0.  Class 3A was won by Benton Community who downed Davenport Assumption 8-0.  Class 4A had Oskaloosa win the title with a 6-5 win over Carlisle, Indians scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to get the walk off win.  Oskaloosa was the team that beat Mt. Pleasant in the Regional finals, they also beat Fairfield in the semi-finals at State, Fairfield won the 3rd place consolation game over Boone by a 10-0 score in 5 innings.  Class 5A was won by Johnston beating Pleasant Valley 3-2, scoring 2 runs to win in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The Highland Huskies fell in the 1st round of the Class 1A State Baseball Championships in Des Moines Friday night.  Remsen St. Mary’s won 10-5 over Highland.

The Class 2A field will begin on Monday including the Van Buren-Harmony Warriors playing Hinton at 1:30 p.m.

The Southeast Conference has announced their all conference selections for softball and baseball.  For the MPHS softball team they had 4 players selected to 1st team all conference honors:  Jackie Fraise, Chi Glaha, Bailey Johnson and Anni Liechty. Bailey Johnson was selected as the conference MVP.  Sarah Moffett was chosen 2nd team all conference, Allison Buckert and Kaley White were honorable mention all conference.  Academic all conference honors went to:  Allison Buckert, Morgan Fraise, Julie Lasswell, Cali Liechty,Abbie Liechty, Sarah Moffett, and Kirsten Smith.

The Mt. Pleasant Baseball team had 3-1st team all conference selections:  Dalton Shull, Pat Canby and Cooper Huckabone.  Making 2nd team were:  Levi Parkevich, Cale Christner and Zach Ebling.  Caleb Potts and Tyler Davis were named honorable mention, Davis also was academic all conference.  Cameron Bauman was the player of the year in the Southeast Conference.

Mt. Pleasant High School 9th-12th grade Football Camp is August 3-5 from 8:00 to 11:00 am.  Show up at Maple Leaf by 7:45 am.

7th and 8th Grade Football Camp is August 3-5, 1:30 to 3:00 pm.

Sign ups for 5-6 grade tackle football can be turned in on “equipment day.”  If people need the forms they can find it on the Mt-Pleasant HS Activities page.

8/18/16 Practices start

9/09/16 Pre-game warm up with the varsity (vs Washington)

9/11/16 First game

9/18/16 Second game

9/25/16 Third game

10/3/16 Last game (Monday night game to follow JV Game) 7:30 start time.

The Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club Young Guns Golf post season banquet will be held August 1st, instead of August 2nd.  The banquet begins at 6 p.m. families are asked to bring a side dish to share.
