The Fairfield High School girls’ softball team fell in the Class 4A State Tournament semi-finals to Oskaloosa Thursday by a score of 7-1, the Trojans now play in the 3rd place consolation game against Boone at 11:30 this morning. Oskaloosa will play Carlisle in the championship game at 12:30. The other class championship matchups have in Class 3A- Davenport Assumption vs Benton Community 10 a.m. Class 5A-Pleasant Valley vs Johnston at 2:30, Class 1A-Akron Westfield vs Kee 5 p.m. Class 2A- Van Meter vs Iowa City Regina 7 p.m.
The Highland Husky baseball team with their 24-6 record will tangle with will Remsen St. Mary’s who is 30-5 at 5 pm tonight in the 1st round of the State Baseball Tournament in Des Moines. The other 1A game tonight has Mason City Newman playing Nodaway Valley. Saturday evening at 5 p.m. West Sioux vs Edgewood Colesburg and at 7:30 p.m. Don Bosco vs Tri-Center. The Class 2A field will begin on Monday including the Van Buren-Harmony Warriors playing Hinton at 1:30 p.m.
The Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club Young Guns Golf post season banquet will be held August 1st, instead of August 2nd. The banquet begins at 6 p.m. families are asked to bring a side dish to share.
Lee County Speedway in Donnellson has cancelled tonight’s race program because of the excessive heat. They’ll be back next week.
The Mt. Pleasant Galaxy Soccer team won the U12 Male/Coed Rec/Open division at the Iowa games last weekend.
