Mt. Pleasant got eliminated from the Class 3A District baseball tournament Friday night when Chariton handed the Panthers a 3-2 defeat at Oskaloosa.  Chargers got on the board in the top of the 1st with a run added 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th.  The Panthers got a run in the 6th and 1 in the 7th, the game ended with the tying run at 2nd and winning run at 1st, Pat Canby laced a line drive that was snagged by the Chariton shortstop for the 3rd and final out.  M.P. only had 2 hits.  Brady Anderson suffered the loss on the mound going 6 2/3 innings before being relieved by Beau Parkevich.  Mt. Pleasant ends the year 17-17.  Chariton will advance onto Monday nights District final against host school Oskaloosa  who won over Centerville 13-3.  #1 Pella beat Ft. Madison 6-0 and Fairfield downed Keokuk 9-5 in the district games at Fairfield.  Those winners play Monday at 7 p.m.  Burlington High School had their tournament trail ended in the 4A substate, Iowa City West downed the Grayhounds 8-5.

 

Class 1A District baseball scores from Friday:  Notre Dame 5 WMU 3, Van Buren 5 Cardinal of Eldon 1, Lone Tree 6 Highland 3, Pekin 13 Keota 5.  Tonight at 7 p.m. Notre Dame will play #2 ranked Van Buren a7 Winfield.

 

The MPHS softball team will be having a meet the players event at Shottenkirk Motors in Mt. Pleasant  today at noon.  The players and coaches will be there for picture taking, autographs and poster signing.  KILJ Radio and kilj.com will be interviewing the players on the air beginning at noon courtesy of Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis.  Meet the players on the state bound MPHS softball team today noon at Shottenkirk Motors and KILJ.

 

New London is having a sendoff for their State Topurnament bound softball team.  Fans are encouraged to be on Main Street New London at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and show their support for the team.

 

The Mount Pleasant Park and Recreation Department is now taking registration for their Youth Summer Volleyball Camp for Girls in grades 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade! This camp will gear you up for the upcoming season! You will learn the basic fundamentals along with fun!

This week at the Henry County Fair has a couple of events you won’t want to miss.  The always popular Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand Saturday night July 18thCommunity 1st Credit Union will sponsor an IFPA sanctioned truck and tractor pull in front of the grandstand at 4 p.m. Sunday July 19th.
