M.P. Panther baseball team with an 18-17 record, opens the tournament trail tonight at 5 p.m. when they play Keokuk who is 13-25… the 1st game of a double header at Fairfield.  This is the 5th meeting with the Chiefs and M.P. has won the previous 4.  Ft. Madison will play 9th ranked Fairfield in the 2nd game of the tournament double header on the Trojans field.  The winners from tonight will meet Monday July 18th at 7 p.m. in Fairfield.

New London rolled to an impressive 9-4 win over Burlington Notre Dame in the semi-finals of the Class 1A baseball district at Highland last night.  The Nikes got on the board 1st with a run in the top of the 1st, then the New London Tigers hitting, pitching and fielding took over and rolled to the win.  Jayden Flowers threw a complete game 8 hitter to get the win on the mound.  Everyone in the Tiger lineup got a hit, led by Blake Nehring going 3-4, Cole Helmerson and Tyler Stevenson went 2-4, Helmerson had 2 RBI’s and Stevenson had 4.  Blake Nehring, Justin Heneke and Sam Loyd helped the Tiger cause with sparkling plays in the field.  New London is now 17-8 and play Highland Saturday night on the Huskies home field in the district championship game at 7 p.m.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the game live.  Highland scored a 10-0 five inning win over Lone tree in the second game of last night’s semi-final double header.  The scores from the other half of the Substate saw Lisbon beat HLV 14-4, North Linn won 13-1 over Iowa Valley.  Those two winners meet Saturday night at North Linn.
