The 10th ranked Mt. Pleasant Panther softball team rolled over conference foe Washington12-1 in a Regional semi-final game at Maple Leaf Field Saturday night.  Cali Liechty threw a 1 hitter and struck out 10 Demon batters.  Bailey Johnson had 2 doubles and drove in 4 runs.  Chi Glaha went 3 for 3 for the Panthers.  Up next is the Regional Championship Tuesday at 6th ranked Oskaloosa who won at home Saturday night 9-1 over Clear Creek-Amana, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast the game live.  OTHER REGIONAL SOFTBALL SATURDAY NIGHT: CLASS 4A- Keokuk beat North Scott 3-1 and Fairfield beat Davenport North 3-0 Fairfield plays at Keokuk Tuesday in the Regional Final.  CLASS 5A-Cedar Rapids Prairie beat Burlington 11-0 in 5A action in Cedar Rapids.

It’s going to be a rematch of last year’s regional final when New London hosts Sigourney tonight in the Class 1A Regional Final game that will send the winner onto the state tournament.  5th ranked New London beat Moravia 6-2 Friday night in the semi-final game they hosted.  Morgan Christner struck out 14 Lady Mohawk batters and allowed 5 hits.  Layney Loyd had 2 hits and Josten Boyer stroked a double to lead the Tiger offense.  New London is now 23-10 and will host Sigourney tonight, they upset 6th ranked Calamus Wheatland by a score of 9-5 on the road Friday.  Sigourney is 16-11 and have a batting order loaded with tough hitters.  In their 3 regional wins they are averaging just over 12 runs per game.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast the game live tonight beginning at 7 p.m..

OTHER REGIONAL TOURNAMENT ACTION: Friday Class 2A Semi-Finals- Durant beat Wapello 9-1 and L&M beat Highland 4-3….L&M will play at Durant tonight in the Regional final.



Class 2A-Central Lee beat Pekin 7-4.  Wapello won 2-0 over West Burlington.  L&M over Columbus Community 5-3.  Next round Tuesday will have….L&M playing Iowa City Regina  at Wilton.  At Mediapolis Van Buren-Harmony plays Central Lee at 5 p.m. and Mediapolis plays Wapello at 7 p.m.


District Tournament baseball for Class 1A teams will play in District 10 that begins action on Tuesday July 12th.  At Highland at 5 p.m. on July 12th Lone Tree will play WMU, then at 7 p.m. Highland will host Holy Trinity Catholic.  New London will host 1st round action on July 12th with a double header.  At 5 p.m. Keota plays Burlington Notre Dame, New London battles Danville at 7 p.m.  Semi-finals will be played at Highland on July 14th and finals on July 16th at Highland.  District 9 & 10 District Champs will meet in the Substate final at Solon on July 19th.

M.P. Panther baseball team opens the tournament trail on Friday July 15th at 5 p.m. when they play Keokuk in the 1st game of a double header at Fairfield.  Ft. Madison will play 9th ranked Fairfield in the 2nd game of the tournament double header on the Trojans field.  The winner from Friday will meet Monday July 18th at 7 p.m. in Fairfield.  The winner of that game will be the District #10 champion and play the District #9 champion at Washington on July 20th at 7 p.m.  District #9 pairings on July 15th has at 5 p.m. Mt. Vernon playing Clear Creek-Amana, followed by Washington playing the host school Solon.  The winners meet on July 18th at Solon and that winner goes to Washington on the 20th.

The Holy Trinity Catholic Athletic Board Golf Outing is coming up July 22nd at the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course rural Ft. Madison.  This is a 4 person best shot, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.  Cost is $75 per golfer or $300 for a team of four.
