Mt Pleasant varsity boys basketball played on the road Saturday night at Central Lee. Panthers picked up their 5th win of the season over the Hawks 69-41. 4 Panthers scored in double digits: Tucker Johnson led the team with 14 points, and Rhett Zeglen, Jaxon Hoyle, and Brody Bender all had 10 points each. The Panthers are now 5-5 on the season but face a tough stretch this next weekend. They will host Fairfield in a double header on Friday night, then play against undefeated Camanche on Saturday afternoon in the US Cellular Center, and then on Monday night they will host New London. In the JV game on Saturday Mt Pleasant won 60-41.
On Friday night the boys team played at Washington. At halftime the Demons led 21-17 but the two teams would go back and forth and end regulation in a tie 43-43. In OT the Panthers pulled away and won 50-46 to improve to 4-5 on the season. Sam Beatty led the team in scoring with 13 points, Rhett Zeglen and Keegan Kohorst both scored 12.
The Friday night JV boys game was a wild one to say the least. Panthers were down 2 and Chase Williamson was fouled as time expired, he made 2 clutch free throws to send the game to OT. One OT wasn’t enough though so the teams went to 2OT and the Panthers won 59-51. Jack Johnson led the team with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Chase Williamson had 11 points with 3 rebounds. In the freshman boys game Mt Pleasant won a close 46-43 game. Dawon Trent led the team with 21 points.
Mt Pleasant varsity girls basketball hosted Washington on Friday and won their 2nd game of the season 48-40. Sadie Carrasco had 15 points and Maddie Williamson had 14.. In the JV game Mt Pleasant lost 27-21, Ava Lowery led the scoring with 9 points and Avery Sutter had 4 points with 5 blocks and 5 steals. Freshman girls basketball lost to Washington 24-19, Kenna Lamm led the team with 5 points.

The Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team opened up the 2nd half of the season at the Linn-Mar duals Saturday in Marion. The Panthers finished 3rd in the “B” pool and finished 6th overall, Ankeny Centennial High School won the “A” poll and the overall championship. Mt. Pleasant opened the day with a 57-18 win over Marion, Braden Ackles, Avante Henley, Abe Wilson and Zach Beason picked up falls. In round two M.P. lost to Mt. Vernon 41-27, Dalton Moyle, Avante Henley and Zach Beason had falls. Western Dubuque defeated Mt. Pleasant in round three by a score of 62-12, Nathan Wallace and Avante Henley picked up pins. The Panthers won in round four 49-27 over Clinton, getting pins were: James DeMeyer, Jayden Davis and Nathan Wallace. Avant Henley picked up a technical fall, Tyler Raub and Conner Coleman had major decisions. To wrap up the day in championship round action Canton, Illinois defeated Mt. Pleasant 39-36. Nathan Wallace picked up a fall, Tyler Raub and Zach Beason had decisions, the rest of the team points were picked up by forfeits.
Iowa Wesleyan basketball was on the road on Saturday at MacMurray College for a conference double header. In the women’s game Iowa Wesleyan won 66-56. Deericka Martin led the Tigers with 25 points and Harriet Fowler had 9 assists. Tigers as a team shot 40% from the floor, 26% on three pointers, and 70% at the free throw line. The team is now 3-8 overall and 2-4 in conference games. Coming up on Wednesday is another conference road trip, this time to Greenville the women’s game will be first at 5:30pm.
In the men’s game Iowa Wesleyan won 73-63 over the Highlanders. Jake Neubauer led the team with 18 points and Alberto Torres had 9 rebounds. Tigers as a team shot 47% from the floor, 37% on three pointers, and 47% from the free throw line. The team is now 4-8 overall and 2-4 in conference games. Their game on Wednesday at Greenville will begin around 7:30pm.

Tuesday: Middle School wrestling meet at Keokuk Middle School against Keokuk and Fort Madison
Thursday: Bowling has varsity duals against Keokuk at the Iris Bowling Center at 1pm
Varsity and JV girls basketball hosting Danville in Panther Gym, JV game at 6 and varsity at 7:30pm
JV and varsity wrestling will be on the road at Washington starting at 6:30pm
Friday: Basketball double header with Fairfield in Panther Gym, JV girls will play at 4:45 in Panther Gym while JV boys play at Mt Pleasant Middle School. Then the freshman boys team will play at 6 and followed by the girls team, both games at the middle school. Varsity girls game will start at 6:15pm and the boys game will follow at 7:45pm.
Saturday: Varsity wrestling will be competing in a tournament in Centerville starting at 9:30am. Other schools wrestling include Bondurant-Farrar, Centerville, Chariton, Columbus Junction, Creston, Fairfield, Interstate 35, Kirksville, Knoxville, Ottumwa, PCM, St Joseph Lafayette, Van Buren, and Winterset.
Varsity boys basketball will be playing in the Wells Fargo Shootout in the US Cellular Center against Camanche at 1:15pm.
Coming up on Friday night we will be broadcasting the Southeast Iowa Superconference matchup in Danville where the Bears will host rival New London in a double header. Girls game will be at 6pm and the boys game will be at 7:30. Both games will be on 105.5fm and kilj.com.
