The Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team appeared in the IGHSAU class 4A basketball poll this week at #14. The Panthers certainly performed like a ranked team Friday night on their home court when they rolled over conference foe Ft. Madison 55-17. Panthers established their dominance early by shutting the Bloodhounds out in the 1st quarter building a 14-0 lead, after that Mt. Pleasant continued their balanced offensive play and intense defense. Kelsi Phipps scored 13 points, Natalie Ita had 11. Mt. Pleasant will go on the road today to play at Burlington at 3 p.m. in the 1st game of a girl-boy double header. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live beginning at 3 p.m. Burlington fell to Davenport West last night 60-22.
The MPHS freshman team beat Ft. Madison 37-21 and the JV won 41-21.

Mt. Pleasant battled hard against 8th ranked Ft. Madison in the HoundDome Friday night in a Southeast Conference boys game but their all state standout Miles Wentzien proved to be too much for the Panthers in a 61-44 loss. The 6’3” Wentzien went off for 29 points and was hard to handle on the boards as well as handing out numerous assists for the 13-2 Bloodhounds. Leading Mt. Pleasant offensively was Jordon Magnani with 12, Colin Mulford hit for 10. The 5-11 Panthers play at Burlington today at 5 p.m. after the M.P. girls game, the Grayhounds lost to Davenport West on the road last night 63-45. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.
Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game 73-40, Jake Lowe hit for 16 points, Jonathan Ita, Payton Kelly and Tanner Ruby each had 12.
The Panther JV beat Ft. Madison 46-36, Kincaid Mitchell had 15 points.

The MPHS wrestling team that lost a home dual meet to Burlington on Thursday will travel to Fairfield today to wrestle in a tournament that serves as a conference meet as well.
The Southeast Iowa Super conference wrestling meet is at Wapello today and the Mississippi Athletic Conference wrestling meet is at North Scott.
The Mt. Pleasant High School girls and boys bowling teams host Fairfield today.
The #1 ranked Iowa Wrestling team traveled to #2 ranked Minnesota for a conference match and the Hawkeyes came up big with a 23-12 win. Iowa State wrestles at Oklahoma today.
The Iowa Hawkeye men’s basketball team hosts Wisconsin today in a game that tips off at 11 a.m. The Iowa State Cyclone men play TCU today and KILJ-AM 1130 carry the game live beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The IWC women and men both coming off big home wins Wednesday night against Spalding University will host Blackburn College this afternoon with the women’s game at 1 p.m. followed by the men.
