Iowa Wesleyan basketball hosted Principia last night for a double header. In the women’s game the Tigers picked up their biggest win of the season 87-34. Darby Massner almost outscored the Panthers by herself with 32 points, she also had 14 rebounds. As a team the Tigers shot 37% from the floor, 36% on three pointers, and 68% from the free throw line. Iowa Wesleyan improves to 4-14 overall, this game against Principia doesn’t count for conference games yet.
In the men’s game Tigers won 87-70. 5 Tigers scored in double digits: Austin Rebel 17 points/12 rebounds, Jake Neubauer scored 17, Kaleb Cresswell had 14, Alberto Torres had 12, and Austin Banks had 10. As a team the Tigers shot 43% from the floor, 35% on three pointers, and 68% on free throws. Iowa Wesleyan is now 6-14 overall and 4-9 in conference games. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at Blackburn College.
Iowa Wrestles has released their Class 1A and 2A team and individual rankings going into Saturday’s Sectional Wrestling Tournaments.
Class 1A KILJ area wrestlers ranked are: 106 pounder Marcel Lopez of New London is ranked 4th. Colton Meeker of Wapello is ranked 7th at 113 pounds. Daniel Meeker of Wapello is 4th at 126 pounds and Caleb Lalonde of Mediapolis is rated 4th at 160 pounds. Don Bosco is the #1 ranked team in Class 1A, no KILJ area teams are ranked.
In Class 2A Blaine Frazier of Notre Dame-West Burlington-Danville is rated #2 at 106 pounds. His teammate at 120 pounds Griffen Molle is ranked 8th and heavy weight Drake Fox is ranked 9th. Jarod Kadel of Columbus Community-Winfield Mt. Union is ranked 3rd at 138 pounds. At 182 Tristan Edwards of Washington is ranked 2nd, and Logan Escher of Washington is ranked 8th at 195 pounds.
Class 1A and 2A teams will open up Sectional Tournament action Saturday at noon, KILJ will have wrap-up reports on Saturday evening on KILJ-FM and on kilj.com website, as well as facebook and twitter to let you know who the District Tournament qualifiers will be.
Coming up this Friday is the Southeast Iowa Super Conference boys basketball shootout. The same seeds from each division will play each other at North Division schools and first games start at 6pm with the second games begin 15 minutes after. The top two seeded games will be played at Iowa Wesleyan on Friday night, first game is #2 seeds Notre Dame vs Mediapolis and #1 seeds New London vs Pekin. Next up the #3 seeds Waco at Wapello, that is the only matchup there but it’s going to be a JV/Varsity double header. Next matchups are at Highland where #5 seeds Danville and Iowa Mennonite will play, then #4 seeds West Burlington vs Highland. Next matchups will be at Lone Tree where #7 seeds Holy Trinity vs Louisa-Muscatine and #6 seeds Van Buren vs Lone Tree. The final site will be Winfield-Mt Union with #9 seeds Cardinal vs Columbus and #8 seeds Central Lee and Winfield-Mt Union.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where local staff will provide updates on recently completed hunting seasons, discuss possible changes to hunting rules and regulations, and address other topics as requested. Locally, the Iowa DNR will be at Starr’s Cave Nature Center, 11627 Starr’s Cave Road, near Burlington, on Feb. 20. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public. Comments collected from these public meetings will be considered along with other related comments received by the Iowa DNR prior to proposing changes to hunting rules and regulations. Proposed rules will be presented to the Natural Resource Commission during a regular public meeting for consideration and additional public comment. These meetings replace the one night listening session held in late winter over the past 15 years. Any person attending the public meeting and has special requirements, such as those related to mobility or hearing impairments, should contact the Iowa DNR or ADA Coordinator at 515-725-8200, Relay Iowa TTY Service 800-735-7942, or Webmaster@dnr.iowa.gov, and advise of specific needs.
