Burlington defeated Mt. Pleasant 58-18 in wrestling on the Panthers home mat. Winning matches for M.P.: At 126 lbs.: Colten Mertens over Logan White by Fall in 3:23. At 285 lbs.: Jackson Kelley won by forfeit. 106 lbs.: Dalton Smith won by forfeit. Kallin Crile was the only Panther winner on the JV level. Saturday the Panthers wrestle in a tournament at Fairfield.

The Tiger Spirit night celebration at Iowa Wesleyan College really paid off as both the Tiger women and men picked up conference wins to the delight of the packed house. The Wesleyan women won 76-68 over Spalding and the men scored a 60-51 win over the visitors from Louisville, Ky.

In the women’s game Rachel Williams scored 24 points, Kaylee Mosely had 13 and Karla Vietinghoff added 12. Wesleyan women are now 11-6 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

The Tiger men were led to victory by Chris Fowler with 15 points and Will Stephenson had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Wesleyan is now 7-8 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

 

Mt. Pleasant 8TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM PL;AYED Ft. Madison. Bloodhounds won the “A” game 35-30, Rhett Zeglen scored 18 points. In the “B” game MP won 41-10, Nathan Rauenbuehler scored 6 and Tanner Burchett 5 points.

                         The Iowa women’s basketball team beat Northwestern 102-99, Iowa set Big Ten record hitting 19 3 point field goals.

 

A Winning streak is going to end tonight when the Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball team hosts Ft. Madison in Panther Gymnasium. The Bloodhounds have a record of 8 wins and 8 losses but have won 3 games in a row, downing Burlington, Central Lee and Washington. Mt. Pleasant is 12-3 and has won 4 games in a row and 10 of their last 11 including a 52-42 win at Solon Monday. Earlier in the season at the Hounddome M.P. won 50-28 over Ft. Madison. Paige Leffler leads the Hounds scoring at 11 points a game. Mt. Pleasant counters with Kelsi Phipps scoring 16 points a game and Hannah Becker at 10 per contest. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will have score updates on the girls action as we broadcast live the boys game at Ft. Madison. Mt. Pleasant takes a 5-10 record up against the Bloodhounds who are 12-2 and on an 11 game win streak. Miles Wentzien leads Ft. Madison in scoring with 22 points a game, shooting 54% from the field, 41% from 3 point range and 83% at the free throw line. David Nagel adds 13 a game. Brady Sartorius continues to be the only double figure scorer for M.P. hitting 13 a game. The Panthers have been on a 3 point field goal barrage the last two games hitting 11 against Oskaloosa and 9 against Chariton. The seniors on the team, Ben Canby, Spencer White and Nathan McConnell continue to provide the inside presence of scoring and rebounding and a very strong post defense. The 4th senior Kolby Raymond is back available for action after suffering a severe high ankle sprain. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game live beginning at 7:30 p.m.
