Mt Pleasant basketball hosted Burlington on Saturday for a varsity double header. It was also Senior Day for the Panthers. In the girls game Mt Pleasant won 51-48, Maddie Williamson led the team with 20 points and Emma Huckabone added 11. The Panthers improve to 5-12 overall and coming up on Thursday they will have Pack the Gym night that was postponed from Friday.
In the boys game Mt Pleasant was trailing for a bit but then exploded for a 21 point run and dominated Burlington in the 2nd half to win 64-44. Sam Beatty led the Panthers with 24 points and Keegan Kohorst had 17.
On Friday night Mt Pleasant girls basketball hosted Fort Madison in Panther Gym and crushed the Bloodhounds 52-22. Sadie Carrasco led the Panthers with 14 points. In the JV game it was Mt Pleasant winning 51-41 with Ryann Davidson led with 14 points. The varsity boys team played at Fort Madison on Friday and won 52-45, Sam Beatty had 18 points in the game. In the freshman game Mt Pleasant won 63-55, Dawon Trent led the team with 28 points and Sam Jerrell had 20.
Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team finished 6th in the team race and had 1 champion at the Southern Iowa Classic Tournament Saturday at Fairfield. PCM Monroe won the team title with 232 points, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont was 2nd with 205. Ft. Madison finished 3rd with 166.5, Washington was 5th 129 points, Mt. Pleasant was 6th with 127.5, Keokuk 11th with 42.5 and Fairfield 12th in the 13 team field with 26 points. Zach Beason of the Panthers won the 220 lb. class, Avante Henley, Nathan Wallace and Jayden Davis finished 2nd in their weight classes. James DeMeyer finished 3rd at 170 lbs. and in the process won his 100th career match. MPHS will wrestle in a quadrangular at Marion Thursday.
Highland grabbed the team championship Saturday in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling Tournament with 133 points, Wapello finished second at 132 and Notre Dame-West Burlington/Danville took third with 120 points. In the rest of the team standings Mediapolis was 4th 111, Waco 7th 103, New London 8th 100.5, and Columbus Community/Winfield Mt. Union 9th 88. Mediapolis and Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union each had two individual champions. Mediapolis had winners in Caleb Lalonde (160) and Hunter Aney (182). Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union produced champions at 138 pounds with Jarod Kadel and at 220 with Chance Malone. New London had one champion Marcel Lopez at 106 lbs.
Iowa Wesleyan basketball hosted Spalding on Saturday. In the women’s game Spalding won 68-49. Darby and Allie Massner both had 13 points for the Tigers, Darby also had 7 rebounds, and Harriett Fowler had 3 assists. As a team the Tigers shot 26% from the floor, 25% on three pointers, and 61% from the free throw line. This was a milestone game as Darby Massner made her 208th career three pointer which breaks the Iowa Wesleyan record previously held by Ali Devries Boyd who held it since 2009. The women’s team is now 3-14 overall and 2-9 in conference games, they will be hosting Principia on Tuesday night.
In the men’s game Spalding defeated Iowa Wesleyan 66-48. Alberto Torres led the Tigers with 15 points, Jarryd Fernades had 14 rebounds, and Austin Banks had 3 assists. As a team the Tigers shot 28% from the floor, 28% on three pointers, and 33% on free throws. Iowa Wesleyan is now 5-14 overall and 3-9 in conference play. They will play tomorrow night against Principia at home.

Varsity/JV/Freshman boys basketball will host Iowa City Regina 4:45/6/7:30pm
Thursday: 7TH grade girls basketball will play at Edward Stone 4:30pm

Varsity Wrestling has a quad meet at Marion High 5pm
Varsity & JV girls basketball will host Benton Community 5:30/7pm
New London’s Keontae Luckett announced yesterday on Twitter that he will be playing college football for the University of Iowa. Luckett was a key part of the Tiger’s championship season with 1,945 total yards and 29 touchdowns, he was named First Team All-State on offense.
