Last night Mt Pleasant girls basketball hosted Fort Madison for a conference matchup. Right from the start the Panthers dominated the game and won 52-22. Sadie Carrasco led the team with 14 points, Lydia Stewart had 12, and Maddie Williamson scored 10. Mt Pleasant improves to 4-12 overall on the season. The JV team defeated Fort Madison 51-41.

Mt Pleasant boys basketball traveled down to Fort Madison last night. Panthers avenged that last second loss from earlier in the season with a 52-47 win over the Bloodhounds.

Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout Results:

-#1 seeds: Central Lee won a close 59-57 win over Mediapolis

-#5 seeds: Holy Trinity dominated Louisa-Muscatine 55-20

-#7 seeds: Waco won 50-32 over Winfield-Mt Union

-#8 seeds: Lone Tree defeated New London in a low scoring affair 35-27

-#2 seeds: Pekin and Van Buren had to postpone to today at Van Buren for a JV/Varsity double header

 

Sports scheduled for Mt Pleasant:

Saturday: Varsity wrestling will be competing in a tournament at Fairfield at 10am

Varsity basketball girls & boys double header vs Burlington 3pm/4:30pm

 

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the boys basketball postseason substate assignments. In Class 3A substate #5 Mt Pleasant is grouped with Centerville, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Oskaloosa, South Tama County, and Washington.

 

Iowa Wesleyan Athletic Director Derek Zander announced that Aleksandra Popovic will serve as the interim head volleyball coach. She will oversee the recruiting and spring season while a national search for a head coach is conducted. Popovic is a native of Belgrade Serbia and graduated from Campbellsville University with a degree in Sports Management in 2015 where she also played two years of volleyball. Prior to that she received her Associates degree of arts and sciences from Mineral Area College in Missouri.

Iowa Wesleyan basketball will be hosting Spalding University for a conference double header today. The Tigers’ women’s team is 3-13 overall and 2-8 in conference games and they will be facing a Spalding team that is 12-6 overall and 7-2 in conference games. The women’s game will tip off at 1pm. Iowa Wesleyan men’s basketball enters the game 5-13 overall and 3-8 in conference games and they will face a Spalding team that is 8-10 overall but 7-4 in conference play. The men’s game will start at 3pm. Today is also Tiger Athletic Appreciation Day and the doors will be opening up at noon so make sure to go check out all the fun activities they will have.

 

College Basketball:

Today #24 Iowa State will be playing in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Cyclones will be on the road to Oxford Mississippi to play Ole Miss. Game time is 11am and pregame coverage will begin at 10am on KILJ 1130am and kilj.com.
