Indian Hills Community College defeated the Southeastern Community College men’s basketball team on the Blackhawks home floor last night 82-78. Former Danville High School starts Steven and Michael Soukup had 18 and 10 points respectively. SCC goes to Iowa Western Saturday night for their next game.

The 20th ranked UNI Panthers defeated Indiana State 66-60.

 

Mt. Pleasant High School wrestles at home tonight in Southeast Conference action hosting the Fairfield Trojans. The Panthers are 5-12 in dual meet action this season. Fairfield split in their dual meet action Tuesday night defeating Pekin and losing to Wapello. JV action begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight followed by the varsity matches.

OTHER AREA WRESTLING: Mediapolis and Cardinal at West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville. Highland and Pekin at Waco. Keokuk at Ft. Madison. L&M and Lone Tree at New London. Van Buren and Wapello at Columbus Community/WMU.

Mt. Pleasant High School bowling team bowls at Ottumwa today against the Bulldogs and Des Moines North.

 

The latest NAIA Division II men’s basketball poll has a number of Iowa schools ranked. Morningside is #11, Briar Cliff is 14th and Mt. Mercy 16th. Indiana Wesleyan is holding onto the top spot for another week with a 19-1 record. New in the top 25 this week is Jamestown North Dakota ranked 25th, they are coached by Al Magnani former IWC head coach, his squad is 12-5 on the season.

 

Mt. Pleasant High School will host an Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union girl’s and Iowa High School Athletic Association boy’s district bowling tournament on February 17th at the Iris Bowling Center. Teams involved along with the Mt. Pleasant High School teams will be: Oskaloosa, Burlington and Keokuk. The State Bowling team and individual qualifiers will be determined. Last year M.P. had 1 individual qualifier for the girl’s tournament and the MPHS boy’s team qualified and finished 9th.

 

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the District competitors for Class 1A and 2A boys basketball tournaments. The Districts are scheduled to begin February 16th. District #9 of Class 1A has Danville, Cardinal of Eldon, Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Maharishi, New London, Pekin, Van Buren, Waco and Winfield Mt. Union. The winner of that district will play the winner of district #10 in the substate championship for the right to go to the state tournament. Teams in district #10: Keota, Lynnville-Sully, Moravia, Moulton Udell, North Mahaska, Seymour, Sigourney, Twin Cedars and Corydon Wayne.

The 2A District #10 has Central Lee, Columbus Community, Highland, Mediapolis, Notre Dame, Wapello and West Burlington. They will play the District #9 champ in the substate, the teams in that district are: Durant, L&M, Iowa City Regina, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton.

The 3A and 4A substate pools will be announced in another week.

 

The Mt. Pleasant versus Solon girls basketball games that were to be played Monday January 5th have been rescheduled for Monday January 26th.  Fresh-Soph game begins at 4:30, followed by the JV and Varsity games. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Henry County Conservation Naturalist Cari Nicely has announced the schedule for this year’s fly tying classes. This year there is one for beginners and one for experienced tiers. Here are the details of the classes.
