Iowa Wesleyan basketball hosted Westminster College for a conference double header on Saturday afternoon. In the women’s game the Blue Jays offense was clicking on all cylinders beating the Tigers 103-61. Darby Massner led the Tigers with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Iowa Wesleyan shot 33% from the floor, 22% on three pointers, and 92% on free throws. Tigers fall to 3-11 overall and 2-6 in conference games.

In the men’s game the Tigers came out with a lot of energy and beat the Blue Jays 75-59. It was a team effort for Iowa Wesleyan with several players scoring. Alberto Torres led the team with 13 points, Austin Rebel hauled in 6 rebounds, and Austin Banks had 4 assists. Tigers shot 45% from the floor, 36% on three pointers, and 82% on free throws. Tigers are now 5-11 overall and 3-6 in conference games.

Both Iowa Wesleyan basketball teams are back in action today down in St Louis against Fontbonne, these games were postponed last week due to snow. Women’s game will tipoff at 1pm and the men’s game will start at 3pm.

 

In 1st round of the State Girl’s wrestling tournament Abby Blint from Mt Pleasant lost by fall in :54 to fellow freshman Karley Havenger of Hinton.  Abby had a bye in the 1st round of wrestlebacks. In her 2nd and final match Blint lost to Shae Muecke a Senior from Kingsley Pierson by fall in 3:15.

 

New London boy’s basketball played in the US Cellular Center on Saturday as part of the Wells Fargo Shootout. The Tigers played a tough team in Don Bosco but they survived thanks to a game winning shot by Mason Porter in the final 10 seconds. Grant Swanson was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 16, Mason Porter and Keontae Luckett added in 11 points each. New London is still undefeated at 15-0.

 

Tournament assignments have been announced for Class 2A and Class 1A boys basketball. In Class 2A District #7 is Camanche, Columbus Community, Louisa-Muscatine, Wapello, West Branch, and Wilton. In District #8 is Central Lee, Danville, Mediapolis, Mid-Prairie, Iowa City Regina, and West Burlington.

In Class 1A District #7 is Alburnett, Belle Plaine, Calamus-Wheatland, Cedar Valley Christian School, English Valleys, Highland, Iowa Mennonite, Iowa Valley, Lisbon, Springville. In District 8 is Cardinal, Holy Trinity, Keota, Lone Tree, New London, Notre Dame, Pekin, Waco, Winfield-Mt Union.

The district pairings will be released in the first week of February and Class 3A and 4A assignments will be announced on January 25th.

Monday: 7th grade girls basketball will be at Keokuk middle school 4:30pm

8th grade boys basketball will host Keokuk 4:30pm

Varsity and JV girls basketball hosting Notre Dame 6/7:30pm

Tuesday: 7th grade girls basketball will host Fort Madison 4:30pm

Middle School wrestling will be at Fort Madison for a meet 4:30pm

Thursday: Varsity bowling will be hosting Fairfield at Iris Bowling Center 1pm

8th grade boys basketball playing at Fort Madison 4:30pm

Varsity wrestling will host Burlington for Senior Night 6:30pm

Friday: Middle School wrestling will host a meet with Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, and Washington at 4:30pm

JV Wrestling will be in a tournament at Fairfield 5:30pm

Varsity, JV, and freshman girls basketball will host Fort Madison 4:45/6:15pm/7:45pm, its Pack the Gym night for Van Allen and Lincoln

Varsity/JV/Freshman boys basketball will play at Fort Madison 4:45pm/6pm/7:30pm

Saturday: Varsity wrestling will be competing in a tournament at Fairfield at 10am

Varsity basketball girls & boys double header vs Burlington 3pm/4:30pm

 

 

College basketball:

-Iowa State will on the road tonight at #7 Kansas, Cyclones beat the Jayhawks earlier this season. Game time is 8pm, pregame coverage will begin at 7pm on 1130am and kilj.com.
